The suspect refused police commands to descend and began throwing objects at police on the ground. The suspect even lit palm fronds on fire and threw them at police, Gaumer said. “We decided we had to go up on the roof and get him. With the help of a fire department ladder, we got up on the roof,” Gaumer said. The suspect then jumped about 20 feet down, with a nearby awning to help break his fall at the shuttered Radio Shack. He landed on his feet and ultimately resisted arrest until subdued. It is unclear if the suspect was under the influence of drugs.
