Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A Glendora man arrested in the shooting death of a Good Samaritan who intervened in an alleged vehicle burglary in Covina was hit with a deluge of charges Monday.
Trevor Howard Thompson, 34, was charged with one felony count each of murder, attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, attempted carjacking, second-degree burglary of a vehicle, resisting an executive officer, vandalism and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Thompson, a Glendora man, is accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Joey Casias December 21 in the 1800 block of East Covina Boulevard. Casias and possibly one other person confronted a suspect, believed to be Thompson, in the 1100 block of North Charter Drive around 11:18 p.m. The suspect was chased to the 1800 block of East Covina Boulevard where Casias was shot and killed. In a written statement, the DA’s office further stated that Thompson allegedly broke into a parked BMW, attempted to carjack one of the Good Samaritans and attacked another. Casias was shot when he tried to stop the attack. A suspect was spotted December 22 by a UPS delivery driver in the 5100 block of North Bonnie Cove Avenue. The driver recognized the suspect from news reports, according to the Covina Police Department. Officers located Thompson in an outdoor patio to an apartment. “Thompson initially refused to surrender to officers and fired a round inside the patio area,” the Covina Police Department said in a written statement. Thompson also allegedly disabled a camera on a police robot sent to conduct surveillance on Thompson. Thompson climbed out of the patio while armed with the handgun to make an escape, but was taken down with less-lethal rounds. Arraignment was scheduled December 27 in Pomona Superior Court, but has been continued to December 28. Duarte man Anthony Michael Zamora, 43 is accused of carjacking and attempting to carjack other drivers. He allegedly first attempted to carjack a driver and West Covina at grand Avenue and Fairway Lane. Covina Police called at 10:16 p.m. August 4 to a carjacking in progress at Grand Avenue and Puente Street, according to the Covina Police Department. “Zamora was acting erratically and said to be jumping on The hoods of passing vehicles And attempting to enter vehicles or carjack motorists,” the Covina Police Department said in a written statement. The suspect, identified as Zamora, jumped on the hood of a victim’s vehicle. The victim backed up and accidentally crashed into the vehicle behind them, causing the victim’s airbags to deploy, according to Sgt. Sutherland of the Covina Police Department. Zamora allegedly took off in the vehicle after the victim fled. The vehicle was crashed soon after into a tree at Puente Street and Glendora Avenue. Zamora was hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash, Sutherland told SGV CityWatch. Eyewitnesses reported the attempted carjacking at West Covina. That victim fled the scene and it has yet to be identified, Covina Police said. Investigators believe the other multiple attempted carjackings occurred in West Covina and Covina Between Fairway Lane and Puente Street. Zamora is a Hispanic man and stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. He is bald and has visible tattoos on his head chest and lower legs. Grandfather, Child Escape After Suspect Carjacks Vehicle, Leads Covina Police on Pursuit11/12/2019 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - A convicted felon carjacked a grandfather and slammed into an innocent driver in San Dimas Tuesday after leading authorities on a pursuit. Brian Edward Hardy, 36, is accused of taking an occupied vehicle by force around 9:30 a.m. November 12 from a parking lot at 1359 N. Grand Ave. A man and his 1-year-old grandchild were seated in the vehicle as it was taken, according to the Covina Police Department. After taking the vehicle, the grandfather fought back, forced the transmission into park and escaped with his grandchild, Covina Police said. Covina officers found hardy in the carjacked vehicle in San Dimas. Hardy allegedly attempted to charge officers as they approached. A pursuit ensued through San Dimas and Covina, terminating with an injury crash at Valley Center Avenue and Covina Boulevard in San Dimas. Hardy was taken into custody; the innocent driver was hospitalized, Covina Police said.
Hardy is a sex registrant and career criminal with multiple prior felony convictions, Covina Police said, including sex acts with a child and weapons and narcotic offenses. “[Hardy] violated his parole multiple times and was currently on PRCS (Post Release Community Supervision) at the time of this new offense,” Covina Police said in a written statement. Hardy was booked on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and evading police -- all felony offenses. Hardy is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse November 14. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Two females carjacked their victim as she sat inside her white Kia Forte in a Walmart parking lot February 25. The woman sat in her car outside Walmart, 1275 N. Azusa Ave., around 11:10 p.m. when two females in hooded sweatshirts walked up to her and began talking with her. They then demanded her Forte, but the woman refused, according to Sgt. David Rodriguez of the Covina Police Department. One of the suspects then brandished a knife tucked in her waistband at which point the victim relinquished her car, Rodriguez said.
The carjacking wasn’t reported to officers until 11:30 p.m. The Forte was last seen being driven away east through the Walmart lot. Both suspects are female Hispanics under 110 pounds and around 5 feet tall. They were described wearing hooded sweatshirts and jeans. One of the suspects carried a scooter with her. The ages of the suspects were not available, Rodriguez said. Anyone who witnessed the carjacking or who may know the suspects is urged to call Covina Police at 626-384-5595. |
