CityWatch Editor COVINA - Police detectives are determining what led to the shooting death of a woman whose body was found at a storage facility Sunday afternoon. Police were called to One Stop Storage, 1432 N. Barranca Ave., around 5:45 p.m. The woman was found inside the facility and declared dead., according to the Covina Police Department. It is not publicly clear if she was found inside a storage unit, or elsewhere on the property. Police have yet to reveal if a suspect is being sought. CityWatch Editor COVINA - Investigators remain at the scene of a shooting that took the life of one teenager Saturday night. The victim, described as a 16-year-old, died after being taken to a hospital. It is not immediately clear if a suspect has been identified or is in custody. Police arrived to the 600 block of East Camellia Drive around 10:22 p.m. on reports of gunfire August 16. Partygoers were seen running in the street. A weapon was reportedly discovered discarded in the street. It is unclear if anyone else was injured. The event was described by partygoers as a “back-to-school pool party.” A mutual aid response was requested with officers from West Covina and Glendora Police assisting at the crime scene. CityWatch Editor COVINA - A driver hobbled away from his vehicle after being shot twice during a road rage chase through Covina streets Sunday. It is not yet clear to investigators if the victim and shooter know each other, but the whole ordeal started around 6 p.m., June 29. For reasons, not yet publicly clear, both drivers were chasing each other around the city on surface streets. At some point, one of the drivers fired at least six shots at the other driver’s vehicle in the area of Glendora Avenue and Badillo Street near Royal Oak Middle School, according to Sgt. Lee of the Covina Police Department. “[The bullets] went through the passenger side door and hit the driver in the leg twice. Nothing fatal,” Lee told SGV CityWatch. First responders were called regarding the shooting by some bystanders around 6:40 p.m. after the victim hobbled to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of East Badillo Street, not too far from the shooting. Lee was hesitant to reveal any description of the suspect vehicle or the shooter. He noted that there was possibly only one person inside the suspect vehicle at the time of the shooting. CityWatch Editor COVINA - Residents have been displaced, but uninjured in an apartment fire Monday. As many as 25 units are affected by the fire that burned at 1375 W. San Bernardino Rd., according to the Covina Police Department. Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched just after 9:30 a.m. The fire was soon upgraded to a 2nd-alarm response, doubling resources at the scene. The fire was eventually upgraded to a 3rd-alarm within 30 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Flames were knocked down around 10:57 a.m. The West Covina Fire Department and West Covina Police Department assisted at the scene. It is unclear if a cause has been determined. Investigators with LA County Fire are on scene. Residents affected by the San Bernardino Road apartment fire in Covina are being evacuated to Covina Park recreation hall, 340 N. CityWatch Editor COVINA - A man reportedly took his own life Thursday after a disturbance inside a home. A family member got into a struggle with the man who expressed suicidal desires in an attempt to dissuade him. No one else was killed or injured, according to Lt. Ryan Davis of the Covina Police Department. The incident unfolded on East Grovecenter Street west of South Starglen Drive. First responders were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. The family member fled the home after struggling with the suicidal man. Members of the Covina Police Department SWAT team arrived to attempt to de-escalate the situation. A handgun was used, Davis told SGV CityWatch. As of 12:30 p.m., officers remained on scene awaiting the arrival of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor COVINA - A man said to be in his 60s died inside a Home Depot Wednesday morning. Police do not suspect foul play. First responders were called to the Home Depot, 963 W. CityWatch Editor COVINA - Traffic investigators are still on scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist that took place Monday morning. The crash took place just before 7:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30 in the 1000 block of West Cypress Street near Homerest Avenue. First responders found an unresponsive male bicyclist and attempted to revive him. He was declared deceased at the scene, according to Lt. Turner of the Covina Police Department. Turner declined to state whether the bicyclist was adult or juvenile. The crash occurred near Northview High School. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. CityWatch Editor COVINA - A motorcyclist died Saturday after colliding with a vehicle on Grand Avenue. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and transported to a hospital where the rider was declared deceased, according to Lt. Anthony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. First responders were called around 5:18 p.m., September 21 to Grand Avenue just south of Arrow Highway. The driver remained at the scene and is speaking with investigators. There is no suspicion at this time of DUI, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Both north and southbound lanes of Grand Avenue between Cienega Avenue and Arrow Highway are expected to remain closed for several more hours. The shooting occurred at Katie Jakes Bar and Grill, 750 Terrado Plaza, Saturday, May 11. First responders were sent to the bar around 2 a.m. The Covina Police Department summoned firefighters to the bar to treat and transport patients, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters. It is unclear how many of the three people transported were wounded by gunfire. The extent of injuries is not immediately known. A Covina Police supervisor has not yet returned a request for information on the shooting. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Firefighters have knocked down fire in one unit of an apartment complex Sunday afternoon.
The fire, which burned in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom in one unit of the three-story apartment complex, has displaced 100 people. Firefighters are working to coordinate to get the families some assistance, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Five people were transported from the apartment, complex, 1159 Conwell Ave., with unspecified injuries, according to fire department radio traffic. The Los Angeles County fire department was called to respond to the apartment complex at 2:16 p.m. April 7. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. |
