CityWatch Editor COVINA - Investigators released a sketch of a suspect wanted for shooting and murdering a man in front of his wife and three children June 22. The man was shot and wounded in front of his wife, 11 year-old daughter and two 9-year-old twin boys in the 1100 block of East Wanamaker Avenue. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and later died, according to the Covina Police Department. The 28-year-old man and his family were out walking around 9:35 p.m. The suspect, only described as a Latino man age 20 to 25 years old, walked in between the man and his wife. A verbal confrontation and sued and the man was shot in the chest twice, according to the Covina Police Department. The suspect fled the area on foot. He is further described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and having a thin build. Anyone with information that may help identify the suspect is urged to call Detective Preciado at 626-384-5622. Preliminarily the motorcyclist, a 63-year-old Glendora resident, was eastbound on Covina Boulevard and collided with an SUV driven by a 65-year-old San Gabriel resident who was westbound and turning south onto Grandview Avenue, according to Sgt. Marquez of the Covina Police Department. First responders were sent to the scene around 6:38 p.m. February 27. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. The SUV driver remained at the scene and is speaking with investigators. DUI is not expected to play a factor in the crash, Marquez told SGV CityWatch. The pedestrian, only described as a middle-aged male, was reportedly outside of a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred in northbound lanes. He died after being taken to a hospital, according to Sgt. Keith Sutherland of the Covina Police Department. First responders were sent to the location around 11:13 p.m. Friday, January 5. The driver called police to report the collision. Officers located the driver at a nearby business and took them into custody, Sutherland told SGV CityWatch. Alcohol and drugs did not factor into the crash, Sutherland told SGV CityWatch. The crash occurred on Badillo Street at Sunflower Avenue in unincorporated Covina around 1:03 p.m. November 29. The T-bone collision led to four people being trapped inside one vehicle and they required firefighters to free them from the twisted wreck, according to reports from the scene. “Upon our arrival, the Los Angeles County Fire Department was performing lifesaving procedures on one of the injured passengers. Unfortunately, the injured passenger succumbed to the injuries sustained and was pronounced deceased on scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. At least one person was transported to a waiting helicopter and flown to Los Angeles General Medical Center for further treatment. Alcohol was recovered at the crash scene, but deputies determined none of the drivers were under the influence, according to the Sheriff's San Dimas Station. The collision occurred at the crossing on Vincent Avenue just north of San Bernardino Road. First responders were called around 12:48 p.m. November 24. Metrolink train line 357 to Los Angeles was involved, according to Meredith Yeoman, public relations manager for Metrolink. Line 357 was able to move forward to Los Angeles, delayed three hours and 10 minutes. Multiple other lines were cancelled altogether. Passengers affected by the track closure were offered reimbursement for alternate transportation, according to a Metrolink statement. The tracks were reopened by around 4:06 p.m., according to a Metrolink statement. Julian Teltscher, 20, died from Diphenhydramine toxicity. His death was ruled a suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. A decomposing body was discovered by a gardener clearing some residential brush near area of an elementary school. The discovery was made in the 500 block of East Thelborn Street. First responders were called around 3:11 p.m., according to Lt. Anthony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. “Based on the decomposition of the body, it looks like he might have been there a while,” Zavala told SGV CityWatch. A resident driving by the scene observed what appeared to be a body covered up on the sidewalk, a coroner van, yellow crime scene tape around the entire residential property and a large police presence. The body was obscured by brush at a home across from Barranca Elementary School, 727 S. Barranca Ave. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - A deputies suspicions were spot on August 31 after detaining a man seen acting suspiciously inside of a vehicle, parked outside a Starbucks in unincorporated Covina.
The vehicle was spotted at the Starbucks at Citrus Avenue and Arrow Highway. During a check of the vehicle license plate, the deputy discovered the driver was wanted on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. After the deputy and made a request for additional assistance, the driver was taken into custody without incident. Sidney Clarke, a 28-year-old Brea resident, is accused of gunning down 21-year-old Logan Kahmar August 30. The shooting took place in a residence at 650 N. Tamarack Ave. Evidence led investigators to pin Clarke as a suspect, according to the Brea Police Department. Brea police detectives reportedly found additional evidence linking Clarke to the murder. Clarke is being held in lieu of $1 million bail in the Orange County Jail. First responders were sent to the 1100 block of North Conwell Avenue just before 6 a.m. Sunday, August 7. Life-saving measures were used to try and revive the infant, but she was ultimately declared dead at the scene at 6:14 a.m., according to the Covina Police Department. The mother was out of state. The infant and the infant’s 4-year-old and 1-year-old siblings were being watched by a babysitter, according to the Covina Police Department. Detectives already have, or are soon serving a search warrant at the home to collect potential evidence in this investigation. Detectors are working with the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services and Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
