Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - East and west traffic on Covina Boulevard remains closed between North Prospero Drive and North Barranca Avenue after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV Tuesday.
Preliminarily the motorcyclist, a 63-year-old Glendora resident, was eastbound on Covina Boulevard and collided with an SUV driven by a 65-year-old San Gabriel resident who was westbound and turning south onto Grandview Avenue, according to Sgt. Marquez of the Covina Police Department. First responders were sent to the scene around 6:38 p.m. February 27. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. The SUV driver remained at the scene and is speaking with investigators. DUI is not expected to play a factor in the crash, Marquez told SGV CityWatch. Suspects Brian Ramos, 19, and Adrian Robles, 18, turned themselves in after their attorneys coordinated with investigators for their surrender. Joel Garcia, 19, remains at large, according to the Los Angeles County sheriffs information bureau. Ramos and Robles were taken into custody November 5. Robles was arrested at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Ramos was arrested at 4:35 p.m. Both men are being held in lieu of $2 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance at Pomona Superior Court November 8, according to Los Angeles county booking information. Booking information from Romas was not yet available. At least two people from the vicinity of the 1100 block of North Charter Drive witnessed a suspect burglarizing a parked vehicle around 11:18 p.m. December 21. The suspect was chased to and confronted in the 1800 block of East Covina Boulevard where the shooting occurred, according to Lt. Ryan Davis of the Covina Police Department. The victim, a male adult, died at the scene. The suspect was only described as a male possibly in his 20s. Davis declined to further describe the suspect. A motorcycle is among the vehicles involved in the crash that likely claimed the life of the rider. It is difficult to say how many other vehicles in addition to the motorcycle were involved in the initial crash. Other vehicles have become disabled due to striking debris in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol. at 6 a.m., a Sig Alert was issued for two hours. The CHP was initially dispatched to the crash on the eastbound I-10 freeway near Villa Verde Street at 5:30 a.m. October 24. Initially, the crash likely involve the motorcycle, a black Chevy Cruz and one other sedan. A 33-year-old man is in custody, connected to the stabbing at a residence in the 700 block of North Grand Avenue September 2. Police first responded at 2:22 p.m., according to Sgt. Joshua Turner of the Covina Police Department. The suspect called 9-1-1 and told police dispatchers that he stabbed two people. Officers met the suspect outside the residence and was taken into custody without incident, according to the Covina Police Department in a written statement. Turner was unaware of a possible motive. Detectives are on scene and continue to investigate. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau announced the suspect’s arrest just before 8:30 a.m. It is not yet clear when the barricade began in the area of the 200 block of North Forestdale Avenue, but community members alerted SGV CityWatch about the barricade just before 6:30 p.m. Covina Police have yet to release details regarding the barricade. Deputies originally responded to a residence and 18000 block of Gaillard Street in unincorporated Azusa to investigate a family disturbance. The suspect fled and led deputies on a pursuit until they were able to disable his truck. COVINA - A pursuit suspect continues to remain inside of a truck he used to evade San Dimas deputies after they pursued him Saturday afternoon. The suspect remains inside of his vehicle on North Hollenbeck Avenue south of East Cypress Street in Covina May 8. San Dimas deputies originally responded to a residence in the unincorporated area of Azusa at 3:39 p.m. to investigate a family disturbance, according to Deputy Shawn Dubusky Of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It was not yet clear to Dubusky, but the suspect fled from deputies and a pursuit ensued until a spike strip was used to disable the suspect’s tires. COVINA - Traffic lanes have reopened after a pickup truck crashed and came to rest on the right shoulder embankment on the I-10 freeway just west of Via Verde Saturday morning. A tan Chevrolet pickup truck crashed Just before 7:30 a.m. April 24 on the eastbound I-10 freeway. The driver is reportedly the only person found inside the crashed pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol. They were possibly as many as three other vehicles stopped in the center divider and on the right shoulder near the crash, but it is not clear yet if those vehicles were involved in a collision. The driver’s body was found partially hanging outside of the truck, but firefighters were reluctant to remove the driver until the coroner conducts an investigation, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. CityWatch Editor Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Azusa officers abruptly ended a pursuit of a reckless Hyundai Elantra that found its way into San Gabriel Valley surface streets.
The white Elantra was abruptly stopped by Azusa officers on Hollenbeck Avenue north of Covina Boulevard. One suspect was taken into custody. It is unclear if a second suspect seen earlier in the chase, was found and arrested. The driver and his passenger were sought for possibly reckless driving by East Los Angeles CHP officers on the eastbound 60 freeway west of Peck Road. The driver bypassed traffic by using the right shoulder. Officers attempted to stop the driver on the north 605 freeway near Ramona, but driver kept going into Duarte on surface streets. The chase went onto the East 210 freeway where officers could not keep up while the driver used the shoulder, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. After exiting onto Citrus Avenue, the suspect took numerous side streets and stopped at an Azusa apartment complex near Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street where the suspects ran on foot. One or more of the suspects got back in the car and took off again. San Dimas Sheriff’s deputies joined the chase along with Azusa police officers who used the Pursuit Intervention Technique to stop the driver. The fire was dispatched at Noon in the 500 block of E. Tudor St., April 19. Firefighters were initially told the two occupants were unable to escape due to flames blocking a bedroom door. Both victims were eventually taken from the home by firefighters, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. An adult male signed out against medical advice. An adult female with critical injuries later died, firefighters said. It took 25 firefighters to extinguish the flames in 10 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Investigators were sent to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. |
