Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor COVINA - Coroner investigators are determining the cause of death for a woman found dead in a flood control channel under Azusa Avenue Tuesday.
Los Angeles County Firefighters informed Covina officers of the deceased woman around 5:45 p.m. The woman may have died of natural causes, according to Sgt. Mike Robison of the Covina Police Department. She was found in the portion of the flood control channel close to El Pollo Loco, 1405 N. Azusa Ave. The woman was only described as a Caucasian female, according to Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Barranca Avenue will be affected from Puente Street to East Navilla Place from August 13 to September 21. The work will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The work is being done to modernize the pipeline system to enhance public safety while reliably providing natural gas to customers, according to SoCal Gas. Temporary lane closures will occur as work moves along the street in sections. The collision occurred on Hollenbeck Avenue and Arrow highway just after 5 a.m. The 53-year-old pedestrian was crossing eastbound against a red pedestrian light when the truck driven by a Covina man hit him, according to Sgt. Zumwalt of the Covina Police Department. The pedestrian was taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with Covina Police Traffic Unit investigators. Covina Police and Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to Hollenbeck Avenue and San Bernardino Road just before 9 p.m. and found a vehicle on its roof after striking two parked vehicles, according to Sgt. Josh Turner of the Covina Police Department. The driver, only described as an elderly female was not significantly injured, Turner said. The driver was extricated and taken to a local hospital for treatment. “She was transported to a hospital and later admitted to drinking and was later cited and released for driving while under the influence,” Turner said. No one else was injured. |
