COVINA - A fight likely fueled by alcohol left two men with knife wounds and two other men, including the alleged knife attacker, in jail Friday.

Officers responded to Rude Dog Bar & Grill, 114 N. Citrus Ave., around 11:13 p.m. May 27 on a reported stabbing. Officers found one man who was stabbed in his lower back and a leg. Another man suffered lacerations to his hands, according to Lt. Tony Zavala of the Covina Police Department.

The stabbing suspect, 27-year-old Matthew Rene Reyes, was found unconscious in the street on Citrus Avenue outside the bar after having been subdued and beaten by other revelers, including a friend of one of the stabbing victims, Zavala told SGV CityWatch.

One of the stabbing victims “soccer kicked” the suspect while the suspect was on the ground, Zavala told SGV CityWatch.

Officers believed a war of words, or a physical altercation led to the knife attack. Both men who suffered the knife wounds were uncooperative with officers, Zavala told SGV CityWatch.

“It appeared the suspect went back to his vehicle and armed himself with a knife. It was described as a hunting knife,” Zavala told SGV CityWatch. “He returned and stabbed the victims while they were outside the bar.”

A friend of the stabbing victim was applying pressure to his confidant’s wounds and became confrontational with officers. An officer was eventually punched in the face, Zavala told SGV CityWatch.

The confrontational friend was subdued with a stun gun.

Reyes, a Baldwin Park man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse Wednesday, June 1.

The friend who allegedly assaulted the officer is 54-year-old Alfredo Garcia, from Pomona. He was booked on suspicion of resisting/delaying an officer. Court date information for Garcia was not readily available.

Zavala believes intoxication played a role in the melee.

POMONA - The woman accused of stabbing her two-year-old son to death more than a year ago has pleaded not guilty in her son’s killing.

Xa Dinh Ngo, 39, also referred to as “Michelle” Ngo, Entered her plea Monday, April 27, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Ngo faces one count of murder with a special allegation of using a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife, in the death of her son, Elvis Puente. Ngo allegedly stabbed her son to death multiple times, prosecutors said.
Ngo was briefly hospitalized after a Covina patrol sergeant found Ngo running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, half-naked and with blood splatters on her body, January 11, 2019 around 3:30 a.m.

Ngo was uncooperative with officers once detained, but alluded to a possible victim, Covina Police said.

Officers learned Ngo’s address and discovered a small fire on the second floor of her townhome at 141 E. Italia St. once they arrived. Her son was discovered dead.

Ngo was arrested by Covina Police detectives on suspicion of murder once she was discharged.

It is unclear if Ngo suffered from a mental condition, or was under the influence of drugs.

If convicted as charged, Ngo could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison.

COVINA - Police arrested a second man involved in a robbery that left the victim with multiple stab wounds Tuesday.

Christian David Camacho, a 23-year-old Covina man, was arrested outside his home without incident just before 5 a.m. January 22. He was booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder, according to the Covina Police Department.

Investigators said Camacho stabbed the victim who also possibly suffered a collapsed lung. He is expected to survive his wounds. Camacho had  injuries consistent with the crime, Covina Police said.

21-year-old Jacob Cannon, also a Covina man, was arrested after he falsified a report of being attacked in Azusa -- mere minutes after officers responded to a call of a stabbing victim outside In N Out, 1310 N. Grand Ave., January 21 around 11:50 p.m.

Camacho and Cannon exited their compact car and attempted to rob their victim as he rode a bicycle. Cannon somehow received a stab wound during the crime, Covina Police said.
“The victim smashed the rear window of the vehicle as both suspects fled in it with the victim’s hat” Covina Police said, adding that “officers noticed Cannon’s vehicle’s rear window was smashed out and matched the suspect vehicle description from the robbery on Grand Ave. Cannon was determined to be one of the suspect’s in the initial robbery and was wounded during crime.”

Cannon was also booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder.

A search warrant was served at Camacho’s home. Evidence in the stabbing was discovered, Covina Police said.

Camacho and Cannon are being held in lieu of $2 million in the Covina Police jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court January 24.

COVINA - A man accused of stabbing his robbery victim multiple times was jailed after being found with a torso wound he accidentally gave himself, police said.

21-year-old suspect Jacob Alan Cannon of Covina was found at a residence in the 400 block of East Alisal Way minutes after the victim was found. Police responded after he called and lied about being attacked in Azusa, according to Sgt. Rodriguez of the Covina Police Department.

The attempted robbery occurred around 11:50 p.m. January 21 in the southbound lanes of Grand Avenue near the In N Out driveway, Rodriguez.

Police determined that Cannon’s story made no sense after and he and his victim were admitted to the same hospital. They determined Cannon was the suspect in the stabbing near In N Out, 1371 Grand Ave.
The victim fought against the suspect who likely accidentally stabbed himself during the robbery.

Cannon was able to get away with nothing more than a hat, Rodriguez said.

The victim received multiple stab wounds and possibly a collapsed lung, but will survive his wounds, Rodriguez told SGV CityWatch.

Cannon faces robbery and assault with a deadly weapon charges, Rodriguez said.

COVINA - A parking lot confrontation led to a man to allegedly stab his brother-in-law in the neck outside Superior Grocers Wednesday, Police said.

The stabbing occurred in the market parking lot, 1375 N. Citrus Ave., July 10 around 10 p.m. Officers arrived and found the victim inside the store, suffering apparent stab wounds to the neck and upper chest, Covina Police said.

The victim accused brother-in-law Jesus Daniels, 22, of stabbing him with a knife.

Daniels was located shortly after at 100 E. Arrow Hwy. He was detained and was in possession of the knife believed to be used in the stabbing, Covina Police said.
Daniels was booked at 1:58 a.m. July 11 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. However, he was released at 2:35 a.m.

Los Angeles County booking records indicate Daniels was freed on penal code section 849(B)(1), which stipulates a suspect is released when an officer is satisfied there are insufficient grounds for making a criminal complaint.

The handling detective, Ivan Ostarcevic, and Public Information Officer David Rodriguez were unavailable Friday morning to answer questions via phone.

The victim was hospitalized at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.
