CityWatch Editor COVINA - The Los Angeles County District Attorney charged a man with nine felonies and a misdemeanor, accusing him of sexually assaulting two girls beginning in 2022. Joshua Daniel McGinn, 41, was re-arrested December 18 by Covina Police officers. He was initially arrested October 2. He was released October 4 at that time due to insufficient evidence, according to Los Angeles County booking records. McGinn is being held without bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Among the charges are four counts of oral copulation with a person under 18, one count of sexual penetration by force, one count of touching someone intimately against their will for sexual arousal, two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with someone more than three years younger, one count of contacting a minor for a sexual offense and one count of possessing obscene matter of a minor in a sexual act, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. McGinn is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court January 6. McGinn is a former Charter Oak High School teacher in Covina. If convicted as charged, McGinn faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and six months in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by the office’s Sex Crimes Division and investigated by the Covina Police Department. CityWatch Editor COVINA - A now ex-seasonal coach from Covina High School was arrested Thursday, accused of attempting to solicit sex with a teen boy. Covina Police detectives were called to Superior Grocers, 1375 N. Citrus Ave., at 4:45 p.m. June 20 about a man intending to meet a 14-year-old boy for a sexual encounter … except that teen does not exist: the whole ordeal was a sting, according to the Covina Police Department. Stephen Cristopher Garcia, 34, a Baldwin Park man, was contacted by Creep Catching Unit, a group started to expose online predators, with the use of a fake social media profile. Garcia was booked on suspicion of arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Sgt. Keith Sutherland of the Covina Police Department. A meeting was arranged through text messaging and upon contact the encounter was reportedly streamed live on YouTube, according to the Covina Police Department. Garcia is described as a former seasonal walk-on coach in the Covina-Valley Unified and is no longer employed by the district. Garcia was arrested at 6:26 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. He is being held without bail at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Covina Police detectives, with help from Fontana Police, arrested a man accused of possessing child porn Wednesday.
Roman Gutierrez, a 23-year-old Covina man, was booked on suspicion of possessing/controlling child pornography. The allegations were investigated by detectives as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to the Covina Police Department. Detectives arrested Gutierrez at a residence in the 100 block of West Tudor Street around 7 a.m. December 8 after serving a search warrant. It was not stated if any evidence was obtained during the search. Members of the Fontana Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted the Covina investigation. Gutierrez is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail in the Covina Police Department jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse December 10. |
