Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Four people were arrested last week, three accused of assault with a deadly weapon, two accused of attempted murder after a confrontation at an apartment resulted in gunfire. One of the suspects shot at the victims, two parents and two children, as they drove away during a chase on Covina streets -- a bullet narrowly missed one of the children, Covina Police said. The children are 8 years old and 8 months old. The incident unfolded before 11:30 p.m. June 15 in the 100 block of East College Street. A confrontation with family of the victims’ neighbor spilled into the street from an apartment complex. The victims were followed as they fled in a vehicle. Two men, Adam Robles and Marcos Robles, drove in opposing lanes and then blocked the victims, who struck the suspect vehicle as they fled, Covina Police said. The 8-year-old child suffered abrasions to her face and eyes from shattered glass, Covina Police said.
The Robles brothers and Marcos’ girlfriend were captured in a San Bernardino motel without incident June 20. Marcos, 28, and Adam, 22, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. They are being held in lieu of $1 million bail and await a court appearance June 24. Manuel Olague, 36, was arrested June 18 and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. He posted $50,000 bond a day later and was scheduled for a court appearance June 20. Marcos’ girlfriend, 26-year-old Victoria Williams, was booked on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Three juveniles were present during a suspected murder-suicide in a Covina residence Wednesday afternoon. Coroner officials have yet to publicly release the names of the husband and wife found dead in a locked room in a unit at an apartment complex in the 200 block of East Center Street. The three juveniles are the grandchildren of the couple, according to the Covina Police Department.
The juveniles were later found safe at a neighbor’s home after police were called about the sounds of an argument followed by gunfire around 4:46 p.m., Covina Police said. Police recovered a handgun at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - No victims were found after a rap event ruckus spilled outside of Katie Jakes Bar & Grill where gunfire erupted in a parking lot early Wednesday. The shooting occurred around 1:15 a.m. in the parking lot of Katie Jakes, 750 Terrado Plaza, January 30. An argument or fight began in the bar and a number of patrons were kicked out, according to Sgt. Ryan Davis of the Covina Police Department. “It spilled over into the parking lot. There were reports of shots fired. Nobody was found struck by any rounds,” Davis said. “Casings were found at the scene to confirm a shooting did occur.”
Davis did not have any suspect or vehicle description. Officers interviewed some of the patrons, but they were uncooperative, Davis said. Katie Jakes was hosting a weekly hip hop event titled Neighborhood Watch Presents with rapper Benjirow headlining the event. Right around the time of the shooting, a patron was struck over the head with a beer bottle. The beer bottle attack was not reported until around 3 a.m., Davis said. Miguel Angel Prieto, 43, was found at a Long Beach fast food restaurant and arrested without incident at 7:59 p.m. after being identified by several witnesses and family members as a suspect, Covina Police said. A revolver was recovered in his black work truck, Covina Police said. The victim, a 42-year-old woman, was found by responding Covina officers inside her apartment, 1300 block of West San Bernardino Road, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, Covina Police said. Prieto was on probation from an assault with a deadly weapon arrest in 2015 at the same apartment unit where his ex-wife was found shot to death, Covina Police said. Task force detectives from the Azusa Police Department, as well as members of the Task Force for Regional Auto Theft and Prevention aided Covina detectives in locating and apprehending Prieto. Prieto was booked at the Covina Police Station on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
