Former Univ. of La Verne Student Arrested, Accused of Criminal Threats Against Students, Campus3/9/2020 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A former University of La Verne student who claimed to be one of the targets of threats against a student group was arrested and accused of making those threats herself. Anayeli DominguezPena, a 25-year-old Ontario woman, was officially charged with making criminal threats, perjury, Internet/electronic impersonation and six counts of filing a false police report, according to the La Verne Police Department. DominguezPena was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office March 6. She was arrested March 9. Investigators said DominguezPena acted alone when she sent threats to the student group, the university and to herself. She was one of the student leaders of the targeted group. The initial threat occurred February 28, 2019 and nine additional threats followed. In the chaos and fear that followed these threats, University of La Verne administrators closed the campus for a day, La Verne Police said.
A fraternity and the fraternity’s president were made to look as if they generated the threats, which used the organization’s logo and identifiers of the group’s president, La Verne Police said. DominguezPena is the student who claimed a smoking backpack was found inside her parked vehicle and that she was attacked -- both incidents occurred on campus. DominguezPena is being held in lieu of $200,000, according to Los Angeles County booking records. |
