Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Detectives are continuing their efforts to locate a known domestic violence suspect who repeatedly terrorized his victim early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is being sought on suspicion of felony domestic violence charges and weapons charges. Officers were called just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29 to the 1300 block of Palomares Avenue on a domestic violence call. Police learned that the suspect forced his way into the victim’s home without consent, caused injury to the victim, stole the victim’s cell phone, vehicle and escaped, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect then returned to the victim’s home around 5:50 a.m. and forced his way inside again. The victim, however, was able to escape and met with officers outside. “Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect is not a La Verne resident, police said. A wide perimeter was establish to search for the suspect. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team assisted with a search. K9 units from the West Covina Police Department, Claremont Police Department and the San Bernardino sheriffs department. Police departments from Covina and Pomona also assisted with the search. At 2:30 p.m., the La Verne Police Department announced that the search had ended after officers determined that the suspect escaped the perimeter. During a search of the victim’s residence a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence. A man with a $2 million warrant for murder in San Bernardino County was arrested November 7 after La Verne Police caught him escaping a Vons supermarket with a basket loaded with 20 Tide laundry detergent bottles. The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. around 11:30 p.m. The suspect was being followed out by the store manager when Cpl. McKinley pulled up during a patrol of the area, according to the La Verne Police Department. The store manager did not desire prosecution, according to La Verne Police Community Service Officer Holly Savage. “Corporal McKinley made contact with the individual, who was found to have a $2 million warrant for murder out of San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office. He was held until SBSO detectives arrived to take him into custody," according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect's name has not been released. |
