The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is being sought on suspicion of felony domestic violence charges and weapons charges. Officers were called just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29 to the 1300 block of Palomares Avenue on a domestic violence call. The victim, however, was able to escape and met with officers outside. “Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect is not a La Verne resident, police said. A wide perimeter was establish to search for the suspect. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team assisted with a search. K9 units from the West Covina Police Department, Claremont Police Department and the San Bernardino sheriffs department. Police departments from Covina and Pomona also assisted with the search. At 2:30 p.m., the La Verne Police Department announced that the search had ended after officers determined that the suspect escaped the perimeter. During a search of the victim’s residence a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence.
