Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - An armed and masked man made off with $100 May 29 during a gas station robbery, La Verne Police said. The armed robbery occurred just before 1 a.m. at the Kover Shell gas station, 2510 Foothill Blvd. After entering, the suspect pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from a green plastic bag and demanded the cash, La Verne Police said. The employee removed the money from the register and placed it in the bag.
The suspect fled north from the gas station. No vehicle was seen. The suspect appears to be fair-skinned. He stands around 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs around 170 pounds. He wore blue jogging pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with yellow lettering, dark tennis shoes, a black skull mask and a black baseball cap with an unknown logo. The female student was found on the ground near a stairwell on the University of La Verne campus around 2:40 p.m. May 28. The female student said she was assaulted by a man wearing a ski mask, according to La Verne Police. La Verne firefighters arrived, but the female student declined treatment.
In March, a student’s vehicle parked near a university dormitory was found with a backpack emitting smoke, which students believe was a racist attack. A day prior, the victim reported receiving racist threats on social media. The threats are still being investigated, La Verne Police said. “The La Verne Police Department and University of La Verne staff is working in conjunction to maintain a safe environment for all students,” La Verne Police said in a written statement. “Students are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and to contact the La Verne Police Department if they see any unusual activity on or near campus.” Email Newsletter! | Advertise! | Donate! Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A man is accused of following around a woman shopping at Vons May 4, stealing her wallet and using her credit/access card to make purchases. The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. The suspect was seen on surveillance footage closely following the victim until he could take her wallet from her shopping cart, La Verne Police said. The stolen credit/access card was then used at multiple La Verne businesses.
The suspect is a Black man in his 40s or 50s. He wore a green shirt and a green hat which featured a gold silhouette of a bear. Anyone with information on a suspect is urged to call La Verne Police Corporal D. Carrasco at 909-596-1913. Reference case number 19-0500266. |
