Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Like something out of an action movie, a stolen vehicle suspect burned rubber in and out of surface streets and freeways before coming to a spectacular end Tuesday.
The vehicle involved was reported stolen in Upland. At 4 p.m., Upland PD informed La Verne Police of the stolen ride’s location at Williams Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. The vehicle was intercepted, but the driver refused to stop, according to the La Verne Police Department. The chase took to the west I-10 freeway where a female passenger attempted to flee while the stolen ride was in motion, but she was pulled back in by the driver, according to the La Verne Police Department. The passenger was eventually freed from the stolen vehicle, which slowed enough for her to escape, according to the La Verne Police Department. The pursuit continued in and off the I-10 freeway until the driver clipped the front end of another vehicle at South Barranca Street and East Garvey Avenue North and overturned. The driver, who remains publicly unidentified, received injuries considered not life-threatening. The suspect was booked on suspicion of felony evading, domestic violence and false imprisonment, according to the La Verne Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A gun and a backpack were recovered after a suspect escaped capture during a brief pursuit November 13.
An officer attempted to stop a suspicious driver in the area of Baseline Road and Esperanza Driver. The driver fled to the 210 freeway and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, forcing the officer to cancel the chase, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect was last seen exiting at San Dimas Avenue where a backpack was found and recovered, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Officers retrieved the property which turned out to be property stolen during a home burglary in Corona just prior to their visit to La Verne. The property was returned to the victim, who advised a firearm was also stolen,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Officers returned to where the backpack was found and located the loaded gun. |
