Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Like something out of an action movie, a stolen vehicle suspect burned rubber in and out of surface streets and freeways before coming to a spectacular end Tuesday.
The vehicle involved was reported stolen in Upland. At 4 p.m., Upland PD informed La Verne Police of the stolen ride’s location at Williams Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. The vehicle was intercepted, but the driver refused to stop, according to the La Verne Police Department. The chase took to the west I-10 freeway where a female passenger attempted to flee while the stolen ride was in motion, but she was pulled back in by the driver, according to the La Verne Police Department. The passenger was eventually freed from the stolen vehicle, which slowed enough for her to escape, according to the La Verne Police Department. The pursuit continued in and off the I-10 freeway until the driver clipped the front end of another vehicle at South Barranca Street and East Garvey Avenue North and overturned. The driver, who remains publicly unidentified, received injuries considered not life-threatening. The suspect was booked on suspicion of felony evading, domestic violence and false imprisonment, according to the La Verne Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Detectives are continuing their efforts to locate a known domestic violence suspect who repeatedly terrorized his victim early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is being sought on suspicion of felony domestic violence charges and weapons charges. Officers were called just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29 to the 1300 block of Palomares Avenue on a domestic violence call. Police learned that the suspect forced his way into the victim’s home without consent, caused injury to the victim, stole the victim’s cell phone, vehicle and escaped, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect then returned to the victim’s home around 5:50 a.m. and forced his way inside again. The victim, however, was able to escape and met with officers outside. “Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect is not a La Verne resident, police said. A wide perimeter was establish to search for the suspect. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team assisted with a search. K9 units from the West Covina Police Department, Claremont Police Department and the San Bernardino sheriffs department. Police departments from Covina and Pomona also assisted with the search. At 2:30 p.m., the La Verne Police Department announced that the search had ended after officers determined that the suspect escaped the perimeter. During a search of the victim’s residence a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence. A search is underway extending from the area of Bonita Avenue and Damien Avenue, Palomares Avenue and Damien Avenue, Wheeler Avenue and Palomares and Wheeler and Bonita. The suspect is described as a black man, wearing a white shirt, a white and black, horizontal, striped sweatshirt and dark pants, according to the La Verne Police Department. It is not immediately clear why the suspect is being sought. The La Verne city council and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are offering $10,000 each. “La Verne is a safe and family focused community that supports our businesses,” La Verne Mayor Tim Hepburn said in a written statement. “I look forward to more tips generated by this reward to help our detectives crack this case and bring these criminals to justice.” Four suspects rammed a sedan into Rodeo Jewelers, 1560 Foothill Blvd., around 12:16 p.m. July 1, reportedly making off with bags of jewelry. An employee was assaulted during the incident. The surveillance video documenting the window smash break-in at Baskin-Robbins, 1528 Foothill Blvd., was shared by the La Verne Police Department. A window smash break-in also happened at neighboring Don Baja. “Based on the circumstances it is likely they were committed by the same subjects. The subjects fled prior to officer arrival. Fortunately, no one from either business was injured,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The robbery unfolded at Rodeo Jewelers, 1560 Foothill Blvd., around 12:16 p.m. After the sedan was crashed through the glass storefront, ransacked the store. “Four male suspects entered the store, shattered display cases, and loaded several bags with jewelry. One employee was assaulted during the robbery and sustained non-life threatening injuries,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The four suspects fled in a second vehicle described as a black sedan, according to the La Verne Police Department. The employee suffered injuries considered not life-threatening. The suspect caught in this surveillance video still image March 16 frequents a CVS store as a “repeat offender,” taking merchandise without paying. Employees attempted to stop him, at which point he reached for his waistband and displayed what is believed to be a knife, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect fled the store and left on a black bicycle. He is described as Latino, stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 215 pounds, has a medium build, black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. A Covina officer attempted to stop the driver of a black Audi around 12:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Grand Avenue. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase along Cienega Avenue east to northbound Glendora Avenue and then east along Arrow Highway all the way into La Verne, according to Lt. Zavala of the Covina police Department. The driver crashed into a computer business at 2100 Arrow Highway where he and his two passengers fled as the Audi caught fire. Officers were able to catch only two of the suspects, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Officers discovered and seized M30 pills: OxyContin laced with Fentanyl, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Gabriel Morales, a 20-year-old Huntington Park man, and Adrian Paredes, a resident of Maywood, were arrested. Morales is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Paredes was held for detention only and released February 14, County booking records show. Morales appeared in court February 15 and pleaded not guilty to one count of reckless evading a peace officer and to one count of hit and run causing property damage. An officer attempted to stop a suspicious driver in the area of Baseline Road and Esperanza Driver. The driver fled to the 210 freeway and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, forcing the officer to cancel the chase, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect was last seen exiting at San Dimas Avenue where a backpack was found and recovered, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Officers retrieved the property which turned out to be property stolen during a home burglary in Corona just prior to their visit to La Verne. The property was returned to the victim, who advised a firearm was also stolen,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Officers returned to where the backpack was found and located the loaded gun. Detectives described the crime as a distraction burglary: the woman reportedly took the wallet while the man distracted her inside Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd., October 1 around 10:36 a.m., according to the La Verne Police Department. “The suspects entered and exited the store in under two minutes. The suspects used the victim’s stolen credit cards to make multiple purchases at Best Buy, Ulta, GameStop, and Kohls in the City of Glendora,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The first suspect is a Latino woman who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 350 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and is 30 to 40 years old. The second suspect is a white man who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and is 20 to 25 years old.
