Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – At the end of an extensive search, deputies did not locate the source, any victims or physical evidence of a shooting after gunfire was heard Thursday night.
A passerby flagged down a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau March 10. The passerby reportedly heard the sounds of a woman screaming near the 6300 block of Stephens Ranch Road, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. San Dimas deputies responded around 8 p.m. to the area and reported hearing three to four rounds of gunfire and believed they were the targets, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. While deputies took refuge behind their patrol vehicle, backup and a helicopter arrived to safely evacuate deputies from the extremely dark location. Claremont Police and La Verne Police assisted with a perimeter while deputies conducted an extensive search, Sachs told SGV CityWatch. The deputies were likely en route to a call when they reported hearing around 3 to 4 shots that they believe were aimed in their direction in the 6300 block of Stephens Ranch Road in the La Verne foothills, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The deputies took refuge behind the patrol vehicle and the estimate the gunfire was heard about 50 yards from their location. Fellow deputies arrived and with the assistance of a helicopter they devise an evacuation plan to have the initial deputies retreat to safety. |
