Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A Pomona man was caught red-handed Friday morning after tunneling his way into a convenience store, but police surrounded the property and took him into custody. Rudy Mindiola, 49, was arrested after trying to hide from officers inside Inland Dairy Altadena, 2055 N. White Ave., just after 4 a.m. Mindiola’s plans were foiled by a burglary alarm, according to the La Verne Police Department.
Mindiola was booked on suspicion of commercial burglary and possessing burglary tools. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is awaiting an August 21 appearance in Pomona Superior Court.

Cameron Swain, 41, from Pomona, was safely taken into custody after fleeing officers who spotted him looking into vehicles in the Edwards lot, 1950 Foothill Blvd. After realizing he was spotted, Swain fled the officers on foot, according to La Verne Police in a written statement. “The officers chased after the male, and when they caught up to him, he decided to fight,” La Verne Police said. No officers, nor the suspect, were injured. Swain also had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested at 8:59 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Swain was additionally charged with felony resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Swain made an appearance in Pomona Superior Court August 6. The suspects have taken approximately $1,800 in various merchandise, mostly consisting of denim jeans and Nintendo game controllers, from Target, 2462 Foothill Blvd., La Verne Police said. The female suspect enters the store and selects the merchandise, using a cutting tool to remove the controllers from their locked displays, La Verne Police said. In most cases, the female would place the merchandise in a basket and fled out the emergency exit to a waiting vehicle driven by the male suspect, La Verne Police said. The male suspect accompanied the female inside the store during one of the thefts. There are two vehicles associated with the five thefts, an older-model, four-door, white Toyota Avalon with tinted windows. The second is an older-model, dark green Jeep Cherokee SUV, which sports a sticker on the rear window. The female suspect is white, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 100 pounds and has long, dark hair. The male is white or Hispanic, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds.
