Brian Wiggs was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Wiggs was identified as a transient man, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer for the coroner. The cause of death has yet to be determined. An autopsy is pending. Firefighters were dispatched to an “unconscious person” call at 3:53 a.m. January 29. The response was changed to a “cardiac arrest” call, according to a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A train operator noticed an unconscious man on the platform at the station in the 900 block of North Citrus Avenue. Deputies and Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived. The latter agency attempted to revive the man, but were unsuccessful, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. Firefighters were dispatched to an “unconscious person” call at 3:53 a.m. The response was changed to a “cardiac arrest” call, according to a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will be handling the investigation, Montenegro said. “They’ll make a determination as to what caused the death. The initial appearance looks due to natural causes,” Montenegro told SGV CityWatch.

The bicyclist was seriously injured in the crash in the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue. The man, only listed as a 65-year-old West Covina resident, was taken to an area trauma center where he died, according to Azusa Police Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval. The crash occurred around 1:27 p.m. outside of Max’s Mexican Cuisine, 635 N. Azusa Ave. The Azusa Police Department Traffic Division investigated the crash with help from the La Verne Police Department Traffic Division. Any witnesses to the crash are urged to call the Azusa Police Department at 636-812-3200. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A bicyclist was Hospitalized Monday afternoon after a collision with a truck, an Azusa police sergeant said.
The collision occurred just before 1:30 PM January 27 in the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, according to Sergeant Bailey of the Azusa police department. Bailey did not know the rider’s current condition. Azusa Avenue from Sixth Street to Foothill Boulevard remains closed for an investigation, Bailey told SGV CityWatch. The collision occurred outside of Max’s Mexican Cuisine, 635 N. Azusa Ave. Bailey does not believe the collision was a hit and run. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of a teen implicated in 2018 shooting death of a man. The unidentified teen was extradited from Virginia January 21, booked in the Azusa Police jail and was subsequently formally charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on one count of murder, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The arrest follows another arrest made of a juvenile earlier this year in the same shooting that left Abel Balderas dead in the 600 block of North Rockvale Avenue. The first teen arrested was also charged with one count of murder, the Sheriff’s Department said. Balderas, 36, was gunned down November 21, 2018, found on a porch on the second story of an apartment building where he lived.
Both teens remain in juvenile hall without bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - The suspect identified in the robbery of two 7-11 convenience stores between late December and early January was arrested. Byron Quinton Cruz, a 24-year-old Azusa man, was arrested after officers learned the suspect description in all three robberies was similar, according to the Azusa Police Department. The robbery method was also similar, but police did not describe how the stores were robbed. 7-11 stores were robbed from December 28 to January 7.
Cruz is being held in the Azusa Police jail in lieu of $100,000 bail ahead of scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court January 10. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man considered armed and dangerous was sought by police after he reportedly trespassed at a school district office Thursday, an Azusa Police sergeant said.
The suspect was seen trespassing at the Azusa Unified School District, 546 S. Citrus Ave., around 1:47 p.m. The suspect saw officers and he fled from yard to yard before officers could contact him, according to Sgt. Jason Poulos of the Azusa Police Department. The school district offices, Sierra High School and Magnolia Think Together were all placed on lockdown, which was lifted roughly around 4:30 p.m. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter assisted with a search, but the wanted suspect could not be found. He has an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Poulos said. The suspect is Hispanic, is in his mid-30s, has a shaved head and wore all black clothing, Poulos said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A motorist crashed into a fire hydrant and sheared it off Wednesday morning, an Azusa Police sergeant said. The collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. January 8 at South Vernon Avenue and West Paramount Street. The unidentified driver later died, according to Sgt. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. Bailey could not provide more details. A collision report has yet to be finished. The driver may have suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash, according to Lt. Tommy Avila of the Azusa Police Department.
Firefighters transported one victim to a nearby hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A watch commander at the county coroner could not yet provide information on the victim’s identification. Alberto Panganiban, 26, died from inhalation of products of combustion. The death was ruled accidental, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Exminer-Coroner. The cause of death for Alberto’s father, 63-year-old Angelito Panganiban, is still deferred pending additional investigation, the coroner said. A fire burned in a two-story apartment complex in the 800 block of West 13th Street October 24, 2019. Firefighters were dispatched at 9:12 p.m. and extinguished the flames at 9:46 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Cause investigators with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to examine the fire, Rangel said. One other person was hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The cause has not been publicly revealed. An adjacent unit has smoke damage and the occupants were displaced, according to Los Angeles County Firefighters on scene. |
