The victim was 22-year-old Andrew Andalon of La Puente, Jerry McKibben, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, told SGV CityWatch. Andalon was in a carport in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street just before 4:30 a.m. December 25 when a suspect pulled up and fired multiple rounds, striking Andalon at least once, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Andalon died at the scene.
The vehicle fled westbound through an alleyway. It is unclear if detectives have a suspect vehicle description, or description of the shooter. Police responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street before 4:30 a.m. December 25 and discovered the wounded man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:27 a.m. to a gunshot victim but did not transport a victim, according to dispatch supervisor Michael Pitman of the Los Angeles county fire department. The victim died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are in route to assist Azusa Police with an investigation. The search warrant was served at the location in the 300 block of North Azusa Avenue December 19. Two women in the location were arrested and two others were issued citations, according to the Azusa Police Department. The women arrested were unidentified.
Police seized 38 pounds of cannabis and cannabis products, one firearm and $2,300 is cash. “As a reminder, the City of Azusa does not allow the sale of cannabis or cannabis products,” Azusa Police said in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Police chased the passenger of a vehicle on foot during a traffic stop and later found a loaded handgun, ammunition and weed in his possession. The suspect, 20-year-old Daniel Garcia-Zermeno, an Azusa resident, fled from officers in the 100 block of South Azusa Avenue, December 19. A passing motorist witnessed a foot pursuit and intervened to help police stop him, according to the Azusa police department in a written statement. “As officers were taking the suspect into custody, they found he was in possession of A loaded firearm, ammunition, and concentrated cannabis,” Azusa police said.

A vehicle search led to the seizure of drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic Luger 9mm handgun, Azusa Police said.
Arrested were a 49-year-old man from Pomona and a 29-year-old Covina man. Police still do not know a motive for the suspects being in the neighborhood. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Friday brought the arrests of an undisclosed number of suspects at nine different locations; suspects tied to recent gang violence in Azusa over a two-year period, police announced Friday. Azusa detectives and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies investigated crimes of murder, suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, drug sales, shootings, illegal gun possession and vandalism. Multiple illegal firearms were recovered from Sentinel Boys 13 gang members, the Azusa Police Department said. Suspects were arrested on suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other gang-related crimes in Azusa and the greater Los Angeles County area, Azusa Police said in a written statement. A call to Azusa Police Lt. Robert Chivas seeking more information was not returned Friday. What is not clear are the names of the suspects arrested and locations police targeted. Suspects were possibly targeted in Glendora Friday. Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to a command post behind the Crowther Teen & Family Center, 155 W. Dawson Ave. just before 4 a.m. for a law enforcement assist. Firefighters left just before 6 a.m., according to a representative of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Lt. Chris Stabio of the Glendora Police Department said the operation at the Teen Center was to assist Azusa officers with a search warrant operation. Azusa officers, Sheriff’s deputies and SWAT teams from police departments in Covina, West Covina, Arcadia, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona, Irwindale and the regional Foothills Special Enforcement Team worked together. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Department of Child and Family Services also responded. Rene Orozco Garcia, 23, and Ronaldo Garcia, 20, are both suspected in the killing of Alex Garcia, gunned down at 170 E. Payson St November 1, according to Deputy James Nagao of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Rene Orozco Garcia and Ronaldo Garcia have been identified as possible suspects and are wanted for questioning,” Nagao said in a written statement.

Reginoal Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through the P3 Tips mobile app. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Police, with the help of Sheriff’s deputies, arrested a suspect behind the wheel of a vehicle stolen yesterday. 21-year-old John Tan was taken into custody near Huntington Drive and Buena Vista Street In Duarte after fleeing Azusa officers who tried to stop him in the stolen vehicle, according to the Azusa Police Department. Tan fled officers around 9:39 a.m. December 9 at high speed and committed numerous vehicle code violations before entering the west 210 freeway. Officers terminated the pursuit after three minutes due to the suspect’s reckless driving, Azusa Police said.
Tan was last seen exiting onto Buena Vista Street. Several good samaritans helped deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station locate Tan in the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Tan is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court December 11, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The crash occurred at the Off-Highway Vehicle area along Highway 39 near East Fork Road around 4:09 p.m. Five people were in the vehicle, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. Two adults and a child with minor injuries were ultimately taken by helicopter to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatcher Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The two other people inside the overturned vehicle signed out against medical advice, Peters said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A semi driver received injuries considered not life-threatening after allegedly being stabbed by his passenger near the 210 freeway November 30. Azusa Police were called around 7 p.m. to East First Street off near the Azusa Avenue off ramp. The semi crashed for unspecified reasons on the westbound 210 freeway and then exited onto surface streets where a fight between the driver and a passenger began, according to Sgt. Jason Poulos of the Azusa Police Department. The driver crashed into some form of a signal box before exiting in Azusa, Poulos said.
The passenger reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. A suspect remains at-large, Poulos said. The driver was hospitalized. He is being mostly uncooperative with police and provided few details. The California Highway Patrol is also investigating. |
