Officers responding a report of a person down in the 200 Block of North San Gabriel Avenue at 11:39 p.m. found the male suffering an unspecified head wound. The male was taken to a hospital, according to Jennifer Wu, emergency services coordinator with the Azusa Police Department. The age and condition of the male were not disclosed. It was also undisclosed what specific injuries the male may have suffered and if the injuries lead detectives to believe he may have been assaulted. The scene remained active through 6:30 a.m. A CityWatch reader on his way to work observed the scene taped off and what appeared to be animal control officers on scene. The operation netted 13 arrests and the seizure of illegal handguns and other evidence related to various gang crimes. Those arrested face charges ranging from probation violations to conspiracy to commit murder, according to the Azusa Police Department. “Names, locations, and evidence found are withheld due to an ongoing investigation by this department,” according to the Azusa Police Department in a written statement. Assisting were police departments from El Monte, West Covina, Glendora, Pomona, La Verne, Covina, Glendale, Irwindale, Beverly Hills, Foothills Special Enforcement Team and County of Los Angeles Probation Department. The shooting was reported around 8:19 p.m. on Pasadena Avenue north of Eleventh Street. Officers responded to the location and found four shell casings, according to Jennifer Wu, emergency services coordinator with the Azusa Police Department. It is unclear if investigators have a motive or even a suspect, or vehicle description. John Guce Amoranto, 43, is suspected of bettering his elderly family members in the 200 block of South Virginia Avenue July 18. Officers responded to the scene at 2:48 p.m. He barricaded himself inside the home and reportedly refused to comply with commands to surrender, according to the Azusa Police Department. “After a short time, Officers were able to take suspect John Amoranto into custody,” according to the Azusa Police Department in a written statement. Amoranto was booked on suspicion of elder abuse and obstructing officers. Amoranto is being held in lieu of $115,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of his scheduled court appearance in the West Covina courthouse. An enforcement detail netted 67 citations from 76 traffic stops July 16. Citations were written for speeding and other vehicle code violations. One person was arrested for a DUI warrant, according to the Azusa Police Department. Three vehicles were impounded during the Primary Collision Factor enforcement detail. The enforcement detail was conducted by the Azusa, Baldwin Park, Irwindale and Pasadena police departments with funding provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

AZUSA - A white work van reported stolen out of Los Angeles in March was recovered July 7 by Azusa police after following the suspect to Monrovia.
A patrol officer located the stolen vehicle in the area of North Cerritos Avenue and East First Street around 5:26 p.m. July 7 in Azusa. The van entered the westbound 210 freeway and exited in Monrovia, according to Cpl. Ferrari of the Azusa Police Department.
The van was reported stolen out of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division, Ferrari told SGV CityWatch.
Jose Marin, 32, was arrested and booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He posted $25,000 bond and was released the day of his arrest. He is scheduled for an appearance in the West Covina courthouse July 11, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The man who was shot, and at least one suspect, began arguing outside of a liquor store in the area of Arrow Highway and Lark Ellen Avenue. Police were called around 9:50 p.m. The shooting may have occurred near Woodcroft Street and South Lark Ellen Avenue, according to Jennifer Wu, public information officer for the Azusa Police Department. After being shot, the man wound up near his residence inside Los Angeles County Sheriff’s jurisdiction, Wu told SGV CityWatch. Detectives are still attempting to get details on anything related to the gunman. A person was found on the ground in the 1600 block of North San Gabriel Canyon Road around 9:37 p.m., according to Sgt. Steven Sears of the Azusa Police Department. Sears believes initially that the victim suffered a medical emergency. Cause of death will be determined by the coroner. The victim has not been identified yet. Lt. Brian Kim of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner declined to even describe the victim to SGV CityWatch. |
