Wenna Chen, 54, was found deceased inside her vehicle after it was transported to a tow yard in the 1000 block of West Kirkwall Road in Azusa, according to Lt. Tom Cullen of the Arcadia Police Department. Chen’s vehicle, a silver 2007 Mercedes C280, was found Sunday, November 24 in the Gold Line Arcadia Station parking structure, 73 E. Santa Clara St., according to Arcadia Police Detective Sergeant Brett Bourgeous. “I don’t have the details on how she got in there, but based on what they found they determined it was a suicide,” Cullen said. "It’s odd, but that’s what they determined.” Chen was last seen November 21 around 8:30 a.m. and failed to show for work the following day. Her family reported her missing November 22, Arcadia Police said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau was initially summoned to take over the investigation, but it has since gone back to Arcadia Police detectives, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect was arrested with the help of vigilant residents who alerted the officers who were attending a neighborhood watch meeting in the 1000 block of East Arrow Highway November 21. Jesus Arenas, 31, was booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to Sgt. Tommy Avila of the Azusa Police Department. The incident was reported to the officers sometime before 4 p.m. The officers were finishing up at the neighborhood watch when the vigilant residents alerted them, Avila said. The officers quickly located and detained Arenas without incident after he was positively identified, Avila said. Arenas was placed into custody at 3:54 p.m. He is scheduled for an appearance in Citrus Municipal Court Tuesday, November 27. The victim, 36-year-old Abel Balderas, was a resident of the apartment complex where he was gunned down, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Balderas was found critically wounded on the second floor of the building near a doorway around 12:38 a.m. in the 600 block of North Rockvale Avenue. Azusa Police received numerous calls of gunfire in the area.

The man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the 600 block of North Rockvale Avenue at 12:38 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. A suspect or suspects are unknown, Crowder said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting. Robert Trevino Ventura Jr. died after the car he was riding in crashed into a pump at a Mobil gas station early Sunday. The collision sent the driver to the hospital. Ventura Jr. was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. A black car was southbound on San Gabriel Avenue November 18 around 2:38 a.m. at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred, according to the Azusa Police Department. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash that occurred at the Mobil gas station, 145 N. Azusa Ave. The driver was taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center, according Lt. Robert Landeros of the Azusa Police Department. The Azusa Police Traffic Bureau is investigating the crash. The vehicle likely struck a wood and metal guard rail on the west side of San Gabriel Avenue while southbound at a high rate of speed, bounced off the railing and crashed into a gas pump. The condition of the driver was not immediately known. The scissor lift hit power lines at the site, 601 S. Vincent Ave., around 2:42 p.m. The worker reportedly became trapped in the lift, according to a representative with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The worker walked away with only minor injuries, according to the Azusa Police Department. The mishap cause power outages and surges in the general area not long after the mishap occurred, but it is unclear if they are connected. The collision was reported around 3:40 p.m. on North San Gabriel Avenue at West 9th Street, The SUV flipped on its roof after crashing into the parked vehicle, according to Sgt. Rocky Wenrick of the Azusa Police Department.
None of the occupants were hospitalized, Wenrick said.
It is unclear if distracted driving, or driving under the influence played a factor, but Wenrick believes the latter did not occur. |
