Police were called to the America’s Best Value Inn & Suites, 433 South Azusa Ave., at 12:48 a.m. The man somehow accessed the roof and briefly refused to come down, according to Sgt. Jason Poulos of the Azusa Police Department. The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived with numerous trucks and an inflatable rack in case the man jumped. After climbing down on a fire truck ladder, the man was taken for an evaluation, Poulos told SGV CityWatch. 27-year-old Roberto Vera was reportedly caught with items taken from Starbucks, 890 E. Alosta Ave. Thursday night after smashing through the coffee shop’s windows, according to the Azusa Police Department. A Good Samaritan called officers after witnessing the burglary in progress around 11:30 p.m. The Good Samaritan told officers where the suspect fled and officers were able to find and detain him, Azusa Police said. Officers were able to quickly identify the property the suspect held as belonging to Starbucks, Azusa Police said. Vera was arrested and booked on suspicion of several felonies, including commercial burglary and looting during a state emergency, Azusa Police said. Detectives are searching for Kerri Shawn Michaels, 45, who has been homeless for several years. She usually lived the Azusa area as well as Palm Springs, according to the Azusa Police Department. Detectives initiated a missing person’s investigation June 29. Police did not provide more details about Michaels’ disappearance. Michaels is white, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 155 pounds, has long blonde hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with knowledge on Michaels’ whereabouts is urged to call Azusa Police Detective J. The driver, 37-year-old Christopher Smith, refused to yield for officers attempting a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations at First Street and Cerritos Avenue just after 3 p.m. July 3, according to the Azusa Police Department. The pursuit continued along surface streets where Smith allegedly hit another vehicle in the 100 block of North Cerritos Avenue. Smith crashed his vehicle on a residential lawn in the 500 block of North Azusa Avenue. Both Smith and passenger Trisha Mehta, from Anaheim, fled on foot, Azusa Police said. Smith was caught a short distance in the 400 block of North Alameda Avenue. He was booked on suspicion of felony evading, hit and run, resisting arrest and was also booked on a no-bail warrant. Mehta, 23, was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and providing false information to an officer. The innocent driver struck by Smith was uninjured, Azusa Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Two Azusa men were arrested Wednesday after a vigilant passerby witnessed the suspects burglarize a business. Paul Medina, 35, and Cornelio Barrios, 33, were stopped by officers after the duo fled the closed business in the vehicle they arrived in. Officers found several dismantled catalytic converters after their vehicle was searched, according to the Azusa Police Department. Police responded around 7:45 p.m. June 24 to the 900 block of West Fifth Street to a possible burglary in progress. Once the men escaped in a vehicle, a traffic stop was made in the 400 block of North Zachary Padilla Avenue, according to the Azusa Police Department. Medina and Barrios were booked on suspicion of various charges related the the catalytic converter thefts. Exact charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation, Azusa Police said. Azusa Police detectives were sent to the scene to further investigate the theft. |
