Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Investigators released a composite sketch of the man believed to have pulled the trigger in a deadly Azusa shooting from 2019.
The shooting unfolded at 7:44 p.m. in the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue just north of Gladstone Street July 14, 2019. John Medrano, 24, was struck by gunfire while walking with a teen boy. The suspect is believed to be a Sentinel Boys gang member. The trigger man exited a black 2017 Toyota Corolla 4-DR, opened fire, got back in the car and fled, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Medrano was hospitalized, but later died. The boy was uninjured, Homicide investigators said. The Corolla was driven away eastbound on Gladstone Street. A witness to the shooting helped investigators develop the composite sketch. The suspect is only described as a Hispanic man in his 20s and stands 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. A partial license plate of “924” was obtained, investigators said. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. The California Department of Transportation is replacing the existing North Fork San Gabriel River bridge. The construction, which is scheduled to finish in Winter of 2021 or 2022, will run Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Caltrans. The Super 10 trucks will haul road backfill from Vulcan Materials! 16001 E. Foothill Blvd. in Irwindale, East on Foothill, North on Todd Avenue, East on Sierra Madre Avenue and North on Highway 39, Caltrans said. The bridge is being built 40 feet south the existing one, which will be demolished, Caltrans said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Stolen property from several burglaries was recovered Wednesday after the Azusa Police SWAT team took a suspect into custody. Azusa man Gregory Paul Xanthull, 36, was arrested with help from an upland police department K9. Detectives began investigating the burglaries April 20, according to the Azusa police department in a written statement.
Azusa police serve a search warrant, but did not state where Xanthull was found. Xanthull was arrested at 4:46 a.m. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is being held at the Azusa Police Department jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse May 8, according to Los Angeles County booking records. |
