Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Two suspects were found at the scene of an assault that left a 47-year-old man with life-threatening injuries Oct. 21. Azusa residents Albert Chavez, 19, and Robert Bucher, 39, were arrested in the 900 block of North Sunset Avenue Wednesday around 8:19 p.m. The suspects are accused of being involved in a fight where a man was attacked with a baseball bat, according to the Azusa Police Department. Chavez and Bucher were arrested at the scene without incident. They were both booked on suspicion of attempted murder and are being held in lieu of $2 million bail. A motive for the attack is either unknown, or has not been publicly disclosed. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Firefighters have just stopped forward progress of a 50-foot-by-50-foot spot fire at the base of the foothills on the border with Duarte Friday morning.
The fire is burning near the end of Encanto Parkway north of Huntington Drive, south of the long defunct Azusa Gun Club, according to the Los Angeles county fire department. The fire is burning in medium fuels in the riverbed. A full brushfire response was initially requested by the Los Angeles county fire department, but a battalion chief has canceled a request for aircraft and for bulldozers and is confident that ground crews currently on scene can handle the fire. Perez is accused of stabbing his ex in the 900 block W. Foothill Boulevard October 4. Officers responded to the scene around 2:40 a.m., according to the Azusa Police Department. Octavio Perez was located and arrested by Azusa Police detectives around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The ex-girlfriend was hospitalized in serious condition.
