Aaron Foley, 28, was identified as the gun-toting suspect. He and his vehicle were located in Covina May 5 and he was taken into custody without incident. The shooting took place in the 600 block of North Alameda Avenue around 5 p.m. The three victims claimed they and Foley were involved in an altercation where hostile glances were exchanged in Glendora, according to the Azusa Police Department. Foley, a Montclair resident, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. County booking records were not readily available. Detectives are searching for additional evidence in this shooting. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Charges are pending for two suspects who decided to flee Azusa officers during a pursuit that ended in a chain-reaction crash Monday afternoon.
Azusa police begin pursuing the driver of an Acura Integra after discovering the vehicle had been stolen. The pursuit began in the area of foothill Boulevard and San Gabriel Ave., according to Sgt. Jason Poulos of the Azusa Police Department. Police pursued the driver to the Covina/Glendora border where the crash occurred in the intersection of Barranca Avenue and Arrow Highway around 5:45 p.m. March 8. The Acura Integra collided with a Toyota Camry. The Integra then struck three other vehicles. Both suspects in the stolen Integra suffered major injuries, compounded by the fact that they were not wearing their seatbelts, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the collision aspect of the chase. The driver of the Camry suffered only minor injuries. Other people involved in the crash were able to walk away. Alcohol and or drugs may have played a factor, the California Highway Patrol said. Azusa Police is considering grand theft auto and felony evading charges.

AZUSA - Under a pile of officers, a driver wanted for speeding struggled to free himself from the long arm of the law after he was subdued at the end of a pursuit early Monday morning.
The California Highway Patrol attempted to pull over the unidentified, alleged speedster sometime before 5 a.m. The driver allegedly refused to stop and led the California Highway Patrol on a pursuit.
Videographer Randy of Loud Labs News, which documents breaking news around the globe, tailed the pursuit as the driver slithered through neighborhoods in Azusa and Covina.
According to Randy of Loud Labs News, the driver continue to circle neighborhoods around the 210 freeway and the Vernon Avenue where his parents live. The suspect and his mother had called CHP dispatchers during the chase. CHP officers successfully spiked the tires on the suspect vehicle, causing them to go flat. The pursuit ended outside the suspect’s parent’s house in the area of South Aspan Avenue and West Paramount Street. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man accused of setting a series of fires throughout Azusa and Covina was detained Saturday after allegedly setting two dumpster fires in Azusa, police said. A lot of what burned included trash, bulk property and dumpster contents throughout the two cities. No injuries were reported. The incidents begin in Covina the afternoon of April 4, where police and firefighters investigated two outside fires in the area of Azusa Avenue and Covina Boulevard, two fires in an abandoned building At 1060 W. San Bernardino Rd., one incident near a Walmart and two more incidents in the 1400 block of N. Azusa Ave., according to Lieutenant Daniel Reagan of the Covina Police Department. One of the earliest fires at firefighters responding to whisper a garbage fire at 1054 N. Azusa Ave. in Covina at 4:18 p.m., according to Los Angeles county fire department dispatch reports. At 4:54 PM, firefighters were sent to another reported fire in the same area.
At 5:38 p.m., firefighters were sent to a structure fire at the Covina Bowl property, 1060 W. San Bernardino Rd. At 7:51 p.m. firefighters extinguished a garbage fire at N. Azusa Ave. and West Grondahl Street. At 8:05 p.m., another fire was reported, this one at 1421 N. Azusa Ave. in Covina. In Azusa, firefighters and police responded to two fires in the 200 block of East Newburgh Street. “Officers were able to view surveillance and identify a suspect who they found about a block away. There was some medical issues involved, so he was cited and taken to a hospital,” according to Sgt. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. The suspects name was not released. A vehicle search led to the seizure of drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic Luger 9mm handgun, Azusa Police said.
Arrested were a 49-year-old man from Pomona and a 29-year-old Covina man. Police still do not know a motive for the suspects being in the neighborhood. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Four suspects in a stolen vehicle were arrested Friday night after leading Azusa Police on a three-minute chase into Covina. The unidentified suspects were taken into custody at East Calora Street and North Grand Avenue November 8. A handgun tossed by a suspect was recovered, as well as a second handgun found in the vehicle, according to Sgt. Nick Covarrubias of the Azusa Police Department. The suspects fled an officer attempting a traffic stop in the area of North Alameda Avenue and East Second Street around 9:44 p.m. The driver reportedly committed a traffic violation, Covarrubias said. The driver fled at high speed and ran red lights during the brief chase, which took several side streets before terminating.
The suspects, all males, were taken into custody without further incident. One suspect was also in possession of an illegal knife, Covarrubias said. The handgun tossed from the vehicle stolen, which was reported in Azusa November 7, was found at North Grand Avenue and Arrow Highway, Covarrubias said. The underage suspect was taken to a juvenile hall. The names of the adult suspects have yet to be publicly released. All transients have evacuated from the encampment. Its location is making it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the trash fire. There are no reports of injuries or structural damage to any buildings. The fire was reported around around 5:49 p.m. Firefighters have requested police to redirect traffic. The struggle and officer-involved shooting occurred at Irwindale Avenue and McKinley Avenue around 12:40 a.m. December 21. Officers were searching for a burglary suspect in the 1500 block of McKinley Avenue when they encountered an armed man, according to Lt. Robert Landeros of the Azusa Police Department. The suspect armed himself with a handgun. The officers began struggling with him to get the gun away, Azusa Police said. At least one officer fired upon the suspect as he fled, but is unclear if he was hit. Officers are concentrating their search in an area near Motor Avenue and Paramount Street, according to Paul Arrasmith, who works in the area. Police vehicles, fire trucks and a SWAT truck are at the scene. Employees and trucks nearby the search are being prevented from entering their buildings. A large warehouse about two blocks north of the scene reported an unknown subject was trying to buzz someone through the front door intercom around 11:30 p.m. — about an hour before the shooting. No employees were inside the building at the time. An alert was received about the mysterious person. Irwindale, Glendora, Covina and Baldwin Park Police Officers are assisting with traffic control. Manuel Cruz Garcia was booked on suspicion of felony arson and on an outstanding warrant. Garcia allegedly set fire to several dumpsters at businesses in the area of Arrow Highway and Azusa Avenue, according to Sgt. Tommy Avila of the Azusa Police Department. Police were alerted by eyewitnesses to a dumpster fire burning behind Just Tires, 877 S. Azusa Ave., at 10:30 p.m. Garcia was then seen setting another fire in a dumpster at Covina’s El Pollo Loco, 1405 N. Azusa Ave., and Wal Mart, 1275 N. Azusa Ave. The fires were only contained to the dumpsters, causing only minimal damage, Avila said. As Azusa and Covina officers spotted him starting the fire near Wal Mart, the suspect fled on foot and a brief foot chase began, but Garcia was detained. A transient who witnessed Garcia set the fire at Just Tires was able to positively identify Garcia as the suspect, according to Azusa Police radio traffic. Garcia is being held in lieu of $310,000 bail. He is being housed in the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles and is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court Thursday, September 27. |
