Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CITRUS - Two suspects, one of them armed with a handgun, reportedly harassed a pedestrian near Rockvale Avenue and the 210 freeway in unincorporated Azusa Saturday morning.
The suspects, both described as being 18 years old, came across the victim around 11 a.m., on the Rockvale Avenue pedestrian bridge over the 210 freeway March 4. One suspect reportedly lifted his shirt to brandish a handgun tucked in his waistband, according to Sgt. Berner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. One of the suspects asked the victim where she was from, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio broadcast. The victim left the area to get away from the suspects. The crime wasn’t reported until later in the afternoon Saturday, Berner told SGV CityWatch. Both suspects stood around 5 feet 8 inches and appeared to weigh around 100 pounds each, Berner told SGV CityWatch. The radio broadcast additionally described both suspects as wearing blue jean pants and black shirts. One suspect wore a red hat. Azusa has been saturated in recent months with much gun violence. Two Azusa High School students were arrested March 3 and one student was found carrying a handgun. A juvenile suffered a leg wound after being shot in the 200 block of East Newburgh Street February 27. A man was found wounded by gunfire inside a home in the 200 block of North Dalton Avenue Saturday February 4. A man was wounded by gunfire outside a liquor store in the 200 block of North Azusa Avenue December 11. Two teen brothers were shot, one fatally, in the 600 block of North Donna Beth Avenue December 6. An 18-year-old driver was shot as he live-streamed his own murder December 5 in the 17700 block of East Newburgh Street. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Deputies assisted by Azusa Police are continuing to search for a suspect considered armed and dangerous Wednesday evening.
The search is taking place in the area of Arrow Highway between Vincent Avenue and Lark Ellen Avenue. Many sheriff’s deputies arrived to set a perimeter to search for the armed and dangerous suspect and were aided at one point by a helicopter, according to Sgt. Emch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. A witness to the search heard a circling helicopter pilot order residents to stay inside their homes and that an armed suspect was on the loose. Emch did not have any further details regarding the search, including whether the suspect was committing a burglary, an assault with a deadly weapon, or was brandishing a weapon or anyone. The shooting occurred in the area Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street around 7:45 p.m. July 14. A county fire squad transported the gunshot victim, according to Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford. Sheriff’s deputies responded en force to assist Azusa Police with additional personnel to coordinate a response, according to Lt. Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
An Azusa Police supervisor was unavailable to provide details on the shooting.

CityWatch Editor AZUSA - More than four hours after taking refuge in a vehicle, a 31-year-old man was safely taken into custody Friday night. The man, identified by acquaintances as Nathan, allegedly brandished a knife at deputies who tried to contact him on East Arrow Highway east of Azusa Avenue just after 4 p.m. The man fled and took refuge inside the van at the Arrow Inn.
Deputies called in their Mental Evaluation Team and Special Enforcement Bureau to convince the man to surrender peacefully.
Darlene, mother of the barricaded man, waited on pins and needles the entire time and even pleaded over a loud speaker for her son to surrender. Deputies set up a phone in hopes the man would speak to them, but he refused. Deputies set off a tremendous flash bang grenade and peppered the driver side window with pepper ball projectiles to coerce him to comply, which he did around 8:35 p.m. The man was examined by paramedics on scene before being taken away for booking. The chase of a grand theft auto suspect reportedly originated in the Ontario area, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Deputies are concentrating their search in the 18200 block of East Payson Street. Firefighters have sent multiple units to a person up in a tree at 18202 E. Payson where the search is concentrated, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver and at least two passengers were being sought by law enforcement in a high-speed chase which entered the San Gabriel Valley some time before 3:30 p.m. The pursuit exited the west 210 freeway onto Azusa Avenue in Azusa. The California Highway Patrol and Azusa Officers backed away from the pursuit due to unsafe speeds. The driver fled officers at high speed on surface streets and could be seen cutting off other drivers. Unknown property was being thrown out the vehicle windows. One passenger fled the vehicle and ran into a home in the unincorporated neighborhoods near Azusa. The suspect continued to drive around erratically until a right front tire began to fall off. The suspect casually parked the vehicle and ran through residential areas until he took refuge under a large tree. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man was hospitalized early Sunday after he wound up at home with a mysterious leg injury a family member believed was a gunshot wound. Deputies and firefighters responded to East Newburgh Street east of North Donna Beth Avenue around 1:42 a.m. March 17 in unincorporated Azusa to treat the victim. Medics could not determine what type of wound the victim had to his leg. He was taken to a hospital to determine what caused the wound, according to Lt. Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
The injury occurred elsewhere and the victim turned up in Azusa. He was walking around when deputies and medics arrived, Mackenzie said. The victim was only described as a Hispanic male adult. The victim was not cooperating with the investigation, Mackenzie said. deputies apparently were still unable to determine what caused the injury later Sunday, according to Sgt. White of the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. BREAKING NEWS: Suspect Accused of Stealing Prius After Social Media Setup Arrested in Azusa2/7/2019 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - The man accused of shoving his social media date into the San Gabriel River and taking er car was found and arrested, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said Thursday. Detectives identified the man through the Facebook name the suspect gave the victim and located him in the 200 block of North Vernon Avenue, according to Lt. mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Detectives arrived to the neighborhood around 10:20 a.m. and arrested the suspect after obtaining his address, Skaggs said.
Mountain View Elementary School, across the street from the arrest, was briefly placed on lockdown. The stolen Prius was found at the suspect’s residence and recovered, Skaggs said. The suspect has yet to be booked, His name, age and city of residence are not yet available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man clad in a yellow rain coat attempted to break his way into a building at the Azusa Unified School District yard Sunday night, police said. The suspect fled from officers attempting to contact him outside the district building, 546 S. Citrus Ave., around 11:12 p.m. February 3, according to Lt. Robert Chivas of the Azusa Police Department. Police reported a padlock appeared as if someone attempted to force it open at one of the buildings on site, Chivas said.
“We were able to determine that nothing was taken,” Chivas said. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the San Dimas Station were called to assist with a search after a suspect reportedly fled across Citrus Avenue and into a nearby nursery in an unincorporated portion of town, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The suspect also appeared have a medium build and was average in height. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA – A man was found dead above Azusa January 13 after he had not been seen for three days. Juan Carreon, 35, was reported missing on January 10 in Azusa. His body was found about one and one-half miles north of where his vehicle was parked at Highway 39, according to San Dimas Sheriff’s Station Sgt. Pete Shupe. Carreon shot himself and his death was ruled a suicide, according to Los Angeles County Coroner Lt. David Smith. San Dimas deputies located Carreon’s vehicle legally parked in a turnout on Highway 39 at mile marker 28 and it was parked in the same spot days before deputies returned to identify the owner, Shupe said.
Deputies learned Carreon was a critical missing person after arriving to his Azusa residence to find Azusa Police taking a missing persons report, Shupe said. San Dimas Mountain Rescue, and rescue teams from surrounding communities, searched for Carreon. His body was found at 10:32 a.m. January 13. The collision happened on Arrow Highway at Hollenbeck Avenue around 9:35 p.m. Firefighters arrived four minutes later and transported one patient to an area hospital, according to Vanessa Lozano of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The patient’s condition was unknown. The collision happened in Azusa Police jurisdiction and is being investigated by Azusa officers, according to Sgt. Michael McGrattan of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. The deputy driving the patrol vehicle was uninjured. The on-duty watch commander for the Azusa Police Department was unavailable to answer questions regarding the crash. |
