CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Two burglary suspects were taken into custody July 16, allegedly found with iPads and random construction equipment taken from Duarte High School. Both suspects were tracked through the stolen iPads to a vacant business in Azusa, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Entry was forced into a storage container at Duarte High School, 1565 Central Ave., between 4 p.m. July 15 and 6 a.m. July 16, according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station. The Azusa Police Department was notified at 6:44 a.m. July 16 that the signal from the stolen iPads was tracked to a vacant business in the city. “The suspects refused to allow Officers entry into the business and a search warrant was served. Azusa PD Officers recovered the stolen property,” according to the Azusa Police Department in a written statement. Talia Martinez and William Avetyan of North Hollywood were both arrested. Los Angeles county booking information is not available for either suspect. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man allegedly brandishing a replica weapon at an Azusa park was arrested Sunday afternoon after he crashed during a pursuit and briefly struggled with officers.
The unnamed suspect was witnessed carrying around what an eyewitness described as an assault rifle at Pioneer Park, 1300 N. Dutton Ave., Just after 1:30 p.m. April 5, According to the Azusa Police Department. The suspect drove away from the park, but officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle and he was located in the area of foothill Boulevard and Vernon Avenue in Azusa. The suspect refused to stop for officers and fled into Duarte where he eventually crashed Into a fence after losing control near Huntington Drive and Las Lomas Avenue, Azusa police said. “He was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers after a brief struggle, which included The suspect resisting and spitting on officers,” according to the Azusa police department in a written statement. Several replica assault rifles and handguns were located in the suspect’s vehicle. A motive for the suspect’s possession of these replica weapons is not known. The 22-year-old suspect from Rosemead was booked on suspicion of felony evading, brandishing a replica firearm, Resisting arrest and hit-and-run, Azusa police said. No police officers, or civilians were injured during the pursuit. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Police, with the help of Sheriff’s deputies, arrested a suspect behind the wheel of a vehicle stolen yesterday. 21-year-old John Tan was taken into custody near Huntington Drive and Buena Vista Street In Duarte after fleeing Azusa officers who tried to stop him in the stolen vehicle, according to the Azusa Police Department. Tan fled officers around 9:39 a.m. December 9 at high speed and committed numerous vehicle code violations before entering the west 210 freeway. Officers terminated the pursuit after three minutes due to the suspect’s reckless driving, Azusa Police said.
Tan was last seen exiting onto Buena Vista Street. Several good samaritans helped deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station locate Tan in the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Tan is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court December 11, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Two hikers were rescued by a helicopter and the Sierra Madre Search and rescue team, plucked from the mountains near Duarte Monday morning.
The hikers wear stranded or lost near Fish Canyon Road and Encanto Parkway. Rescuers from the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team and Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to a 9-1-1 call around 1:32 a.m. Firefighters reached the hikers around 1:56 a.m. The two hikers were hoisted out of the area and taken to a nearby Los Angeles County Fire landing zone. The one-quarter-acre fire was reported to firefighters at 4:36 p.m. in the 16000 block of Foothill Boulevard. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:38 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was no threat to nearby homes or businesses, according to Officer Mike Bires of the Azusa Police Department. The two engines assigned to the fire cleared the scene within 20 minutes, Flores said. |
