Octavio Perez was located and arrested by Azusa Police detectives around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The ex-girlfriend was hospitalized in serious condition. Christian Porter, a 25-year-old Azusa man, was located and taken into custody without further incident Friday. Police sought him after his ex-girlfriend said he attempted to kidnap her and also assaulted her inside her home. Porter allegedly took off with the victim’s four-year-old daughter, according to the Azusa Police Department. Police responded to 855 S. Citrus Ave. around 9:30 p.m. September 24 to investigate the claims. Porter allegedly drove the child to family members in another town After allegedly kidnapping her. He left her there with family and fled the scene, Azusa police said. The child was medically examined and was reportedly an injured. Porter was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, attempted murder, kidnapping and for a parole hold, according to the Azusa Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA – A cab driver is recovering from facial lacerations after his rider allegedly stabbed him and took off with his cab, police said. Azusa man Oscar Jacques, 30, was located in the stolen cab in Los Angeles. He led authorities on a pursuit into South Los Angeles where he surrendered without incident, Azusa Police said. The alleged assault and carjacking occurred September 9 around 8:51 a.m. in the 200 block of North Soldano Avenue. Police found only the cab driver with multiple lacerations to his face. He was later hospitalized for his wounds, Azusa Police said.
The suspect and cab were located in Los Angeles. A traffic stop was conducted, but Jacques refused to yield and fled from the California Highway Patrol before he yielded and surrendered without further incident at Florence Avenue and Menlo Avenue, Azusa Police said. Jacques was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, carjacking and failure to yield. He is being held in lieu of $1 million ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Court Monday, September 14. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A driver was hospitalized Saturday after another driver unloaded a firearm at him while on the 210 freeway early Saturday. A man from Fontana was eastbound 210 freeway at Irwindale Avenue in a Kia when someone from inside another vehicle began firing at him. Multiple bullets struck the left side of the Kia. The man from Fontana was also wounded in the left leg. He continued to flee eastbound until he stopped at a 7-Eleven in Azusa at 504 S. Citrus Ave, according to the California Highway Patrol. The shooting took place around 1:50 a.m.
“The driver entered the 7-11 and was assisted by the store clerk. The driver was transported to Pomona Valley Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left leg,” according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. CHP investigators do not have information on the shooter. Police responding to the 200 block of North Dalton Avenue at 7:35 p.m. August 8 found the victim suffering from three gunshot wounds. He was shot elsewhere in the neighborhood and ran before collapsing, according to Sgt. Seth Chapman of the Azusa Police Department. Detectives believe the shooting was gang related, Chapman told SGV CityWatch. Investigators are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Sgt. Suspect Cristian Zapien Alvarado is also accused of sending nude photos and video of him having sex in hopes of meeting the teen. He allegedly befriended the teen through social media in July, according to the Azusa Police Department.
“On one occasion, Alvarado was successful in luring the victim into a meeting,” Azusa Police said in a written statement. Alvarado was arrested July 30. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Two females were reportedly attacked in Azusa resulting in the arrest of an 18-year-old and four juveniles, one armed with a gun, police said.
One or more of the five occupants in the suspect vehicle are accused of yelling racial slurs at two females near the 300 block of East Foothill Boulevard early Friday morning before 1:18 a.m. One of the suspects also threw objects at the two females, hitting one of them, according to the Azusa Police Department in a written statement. Prior to the reported assault, police stopped the vehicle and its occupants in the area of North Alameda Avenue and East Fifth Street after the driver was moving at high speed. It was during the traffic stop that police found a handgun on one of the juveniles, Azusa police said. Soon after the traffic stop, the females flagged down another officer to report the assault. Police soon realized that the speeding suspects and the suspects in the assault were one in the same, Azusa police said. Neither of the females were injured in the assault. Arrested was 18-year-old Gabriel Ornelas from Ontario. He was booked on suspicion of child endangerment, hate crime, and battery. One juvenile was arrested for possessing a handgun, one juvenile was arrested on suspicion of hate crime and battery and two others were arrested for violating curfew. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man was beaten to death with a baseball bat in a daytime assault Wednesday, Police said. The suspect, 23-year-old Manuel Banuelos of Pasadena, was found and arrested a short distance from the beating at 809 N. Azusa Ave. June 10. The victim was hospitalized after being treated by paramedics at the scene, but later died, according to the Azusa Police Department. The attack occurred around 2:14 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Officers found the unidentified victim bleeding from the head, Azusa Police said in a written statement. Bystanders helped Azusa officers locate Banuelos, who was booked on suspicion of murder. He is being held in the Azusa City jail without bail, Azusa Police said. Banuelos is scheduled for an appearance in court June 12. Paul Martinez, a 62-year-old Azusa man, was arrested after crashing in the 5400 block of Rockvale Avenue. Martinez is accused of assault with a deadly weapon against an officer after fleeing police when they tried to contact him, according to the Azusa Police Department. Police were sent to the 600 block of South Azusa Avenue just after 4 p.m. April 2 for a domestic violence investigation when they encountered Martinez who fled to a nearby vehicle. “As officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred,” according to Azusa police in a written statement. Martinez crashed into a fence according to the California Highway Patrol. Martinez was not struck by gunfire. He was evaluated at the scene of the crash by Los Angeles County firefighter paramedics before being booked in Azusa police jail. Martinez was booked on suspicion of several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and attempted murder, Azusa police said. The female victim of the report of domestic battery was evaluated at the scene of the initial crime for moderate injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. No officers were injured. County booking records for Martinez were not readily available. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau are assisting Azusa Police with a possible search at University Drive near Azusa Pacific University, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department stated the incident began at Jack In the Box, 877 E. Alosta Ave. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:58 p.m.
