Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man found seated in a crashed vehicle, suffering from a gunshot later died at a hospital, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
Azusa Police officers were called to a traffic collision in the 17700 block of East Newburgh Street just before 10 a.m. December 5. The unidentified victim, only described as being 18 to 25 years old, was found suffering at least one gunshot, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. KTLA 5 reporters discovered Facebook video from the man who was shot. He was on a livestream as he drove east on Newburgh Street. A single shot struck the man and his vehicle careened head on into a parked truck. An initial report provided to the California Highway Patrol indicated that at least one or more of the vehicles involved in the crash had caught on fire. First responders began providing CPR to the man who was shot before he was transported to a local hospital. Investigators believe that the shooting occurred near the intersection of East Newburgh Street and North Donna Beth Avenue, roughly one block west of where the crash occurred. Either investigators do not know where the shot came from, or have not yet publicly revealed information leading to a suspect. MOUNTAINS - A portion of San Gabriel Canyon Road remains closed Thanksgiving Day as investigators continue to piece together details of a fatal motorcycle crash. The crash occurred near 2025 North San Gabriel Canyon Road around 10:30 a.m. November 24. Numerous callers reported the crash. The male adult who crashed died at the scene. Initially, this is believed to be a solo collision. The cause for the crash is still being investigated, according to Lt. Jorge Sandoval of the Azusa Police Department. The road was closed from the southern bridge at Mountain Laurel Way to the northern bridge, Sandoval told SGV CityWatch. Caltrans is assisting with the closure. Residents with identification are allowed in. A CHP closure originally spanned further up to East Fork Road for separate reasons. Robert Holloway, 39, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. He died from multiple traumatic injuries. His death was ruled accidental. First responders were called to the crash at Cerritos Avenue and Gladstone Street around 2 a.m. August 16. For unknown reasons the driver, who was northbound on Cerritos Avenue, crashed just south of Gladstone Street. The vehicle possibly struck a palm tree and destroyed irrigation piping, according to Sgt. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. The vehicle appeared to be a Dodge Charger. Public death records did not list any contributing factors in Holloway’s death. Luis Manuel Garcia, 27, was found dead after officers were called to a report of a person not breathing in the area of Newburgh Street and Azusa Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Officers initially believed Garcia died of a possible drug overdose, but the coroner has deferred the cause of death, pending additional investigation. First responders were sent to the area of Azusa Avenue and Newburgh Street around 7:27 p.m. August 18 to a report of a person not breathing. The Hispanic man in his 20s was found at a business complex, according to Azusa Police Cpl. Martinez. The man died of a possible overdose. At this time investigators do not suspect foul play, Martinez told SGV CityWatch. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. “25 years and that definitely goes down as one of the top five worst that I’ve seen,” Bailey told SGV CityWatch. The vehicle appeared to be a Dodge Charger. It is not yet clear if alcohol or drugs factored into the crash. The intersection was closed down for roughly seven hours. A person was found on the ground in the 1600 block of North San Gabriel Canyon Road around 9:37 p.m., according to Sgt. Steven Sears of the Azusa Police Department. Sears believes initially that the victim suffered a medical emergency. Cause of death will be determined by the coroner. The victim has not been identified yet. Lt. Hidalgo was allegedly spray painting graffiti in an Azusa neighborhood Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Hidalgo was found by Azusa Police officers in the 200 block of South Noble Place, June 2 around 3:23 p.m. He was transported to a hospital and died the next day, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators later identified two suspects in the shooting and both are now in custody. Their names have not been publicly released. Transient Gerardo Vega, 50, suffered from head trauma, a stab wound of the neck and gunshot wound of the abdomen, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Vega’s death was ruled a homicide. A passerby en route to work discovered Vega down and un responsive at the Azusa Rockery, 1350 Mountain View Cir., around 7:43 a.m. June 3. It is not publicly clear if Sheriff’s Homicide investigators identified a suspect. Azusa Rockery is a half-acre geology interpretive park nestled in an area north of an industrial complex and is adjacent to the San Gabriel River Bike Path.
