Officers attempted to stop Pomona man Gabriel Triviso in the area of Heathdale Avenue and Kirkwall Road around 9:19 p.m. Triviso reportedly ran on foot and discarded the handgun before hiding behind a vehicle, according to the Azusa Police Department. Triviso fled again, but was soon caught. Triviso, 41, was booked on suspicion of being a gang member in possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting, delaying and obstructing a peace officer, Azusa Police said. He is currently in custody, Azusa Police said. Marty Anthony Michaels, 38, who is also a convicted felon, was taken into custody June 19. After he eventually surrendered, a loaded handgun was found in Michaels’ home, according to the Azusa Police Department in a written statement. Azusa Police, with help from an Upland Police K9, executed a search warrant at Michaels’ residence, but he ordered officers to leave, the Azusa Police Department said. Members of the Azusa Police SWAT Team arrived and de-escalated the situation. Michaels was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, the Azusa Police Department said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Friday brought the arrests of an undisclosed number of suspects at nine different locations; suspects tied to recent gang violence in Azusa over a two-year period, police announced Friday. Azusa detectives and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies investigated crimes of murder, suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, drug sales, shootings, illegal gun possession and vandalism. Multiple illegal firearms were recovered from Sentinel Boys 13 gang members, the Azusa Police Department said. Suspects were arrested on suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other gang-related crimes in Azusa and the greater Los Angeles County area, Azusa Police said in a written statement. A call to Azusa Police Lt. Robert Chivas seeking more information was not returned Friday. What is not clear are the names of the suspects arrested and locations police targeted. Suspects were possibly targeted in Glendora Friday. Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to a command post behind the Crowther Teen & Family Center, 155 W. Dawson Ave. just before 4 a.m. for a law enforcement assist. Firefighters left just before 6 a.m., according to a representative of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Lt. Chris Stabio of the Glendora Police Department said the operation at the Teen Center was to assist Azusa officers with a search warrant operation. Azusa officers, Sheriff’s deputies and SWAT teams from police departments in Covina, West Covina, Arcadia, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona, Irwindale and the regional Foothills Special Enforcement Team worked together. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Department of Child and Family Services also responded. Rene Orozco Garcia, 23, and Ronaldo Garcia, 20, are both suspected in the killing of Alex Garcia, gunned down at 170 E. Payson St November 1, according to Deputy James Nagao of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Rene Orozco Garcia and Ronaldo Garcia have been identified as possible suspects and are wanted for questioning,” Nagao said in a written statement.

The suspect is believed to be a Sentinel Boys gang member and is only described as a Hispanic male. The trigger man fled in a black four-door compact car, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The shooting unfolded at 7:44 p.m. in the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue July 14. John Medrano, 24, was struck by gunfire while walking with a teen boy. Medrano was hospitalized, but later died. The boy was uninjured.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Officers found bullet holes in a nearby apartment building after residents reported gunfire Wednesday evening. The gunfire was reported just after 5:20 p.m. July 24 in the 600 block of Glenfinnan Avenue. Arriving officers located about eight spent shell casings in the street and bullet holes in a nearby apartment, according to Sgt. Jason Poulos of the Azusa Police Department. No one was injured by gunfire.
One bullet struck a window, another struck a wall at an apartment, Poulos said. One of the residents who reported the sound of gunfire heard a possible suspect vehicle speeding away, Poulos said.
