Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA – A San Diego man killed himself in an Azusa neighborhood Tuesday, according to coroner investigators.
Daniel Rosas-Lucero, 37, died from a gunshot wound to the head in the 700 block of North Soldano Avenue, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Officers responded to the neighborhood just before 6 p.m. Wednesday to a call of shots fired and found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Jennifer Wu, community service officer with the Azusa Police Department. Few other details are available regarding what potentially led up to the shooting, as detectives continue to work the case, Wu told SGV CityWatch. One reader on the SGV CityWatch Facebook page noted his wife and other attendees of a coffee shop meeting at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Soldano Avenue reported someone running into the coffee shop. Gunfire was soon heard and patrons were rushed to nearby St. Francis of Rome Church. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA – An officer was hospitalized for injuries considered not life-threatening after being shot during a struggle with a suspect who fled from a reported stolen vehicle Wednesday.
The unidentified suspect ran from officers in the 1000 block of West Gladstone Street around 4 p.m. February 16. Two officers chased the suspect on foot and an altercation began, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “During the struggle, the suspect produced a handgun and fired at the officers, at which time one officer returned gunfire and an officer involved shooting occurred. One officer was struck in the lower torso and was transported to a local hospital,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a written statement. The suspect is only described as a man in his 30s. Next of kin have yet to be notified, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The suspect was struck multiple times. He was treated by paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. A 28-year-old passenger in the reported stolen vehicle was detained, but it is unclear if she was arrested or released. Sakia Morris, 40, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. A cause of death is still pending as an exam has yet to be scheduled. Morris was found dead by authorities called to conduct a welfare check February 7 around 11:30 a.m. at Foothill Boulevard and Alameda Avenue. Morris was pronounced dead at 11:46 a.m., according to coroner Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani. The woman was found near a bus bench on Foothill Boulevard near Alameda Avenue February 7 around 11:30 a.m. It is unclear how long the woman may have been deceased before being discovered, according to Lt. Fernando Vasconcelos of the Azusa Police Department. Los Angeles County firefighters also responded. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has been called to the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A Hispanic man in his 20s died near the on ramp to the eastbound 210 freeway Thursday afternoon, CHP and coroner officials said.
The man was found just before 3:18 p.m. April 9. He was declared dead on arrival, according to Dispatch Supervisor Troy of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Sig Alert for the on ramp from Vernon Avenue to the eastbound 210 freeway was initiated at 3:53 p.m. Thursday. The Sig Alert was canceled at 1:14 a.m. Friday, according to Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. The victim’s name has not been publicly revealed. Next of kin have yet to be notified, according to Lt. Nani Cholakians of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Confusion persists as to which agency is actually handling the investigation. In interviews conducted Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol stated the death was an Azusa Police matter. An Azusa Police supervisor soon after stated that the death was a CHP matter. In a brief interview Friday morning, Kimball stated that the CHP is investigating the death. The cause of death has yet to be revealed. Wednesday night, police were called to a reported shooting victim at that same location after 10 p.m. No victim had been found. It is unclear if Wednesday night’s call and Thursday‘s discovery of a dead man are connected. Police and firefighters responded to the Arrow Inn, 469 E. Arrow Hwy., at 12:14 p.m. April 7. The male likely did not wake up after going to bed the night before, according to Sgt. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. “To my knowledge, there’s nothing suspicious about it,” Bailey told SGV CityWatch, adding that the death was likely natural The man was identified as 57-year-old David Alan Vanderloop by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. His city of residence was not immediately known. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled. |
