COVINA – A woman found half-naked and with blood splatters on her body is connected to the discovery of a dead child found in a burning townhouse Friday morning.
The child was discovered after officers questioned the woman found running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, January 11 around 3:30 a.m. The woman was uncooperative when questioned, according to the Covina Police Department.
A patrol sergeant found the woman, according to Sgt. David Rodriguez of Covina Police.
While detectives are not yet certain, they believe the woman to be the child’s mother, Rodriguez said.
The woman made statements alluding to a victim, but officers could not get a residence from her, Covina Police said.
Officers finally learned the woman’s address and upon arrival, found visible flames from the second-floor unit and soon discovered a dead child within the townhouse, located at 141 E. Italia St.
Covina officers summoned firefighters, who arrived on scene at 3:47 p.m. and knocked down flames four minutes later, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department representative.
The woman is still being evaluated, Rodriguez said.
Anyone with information on the child’s death is urged to contact Covina Police Detective Tim Statler at 626-384-5622, the Covina Police Watch Commander at 626-384-5665, or L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
