The crash occurred in the 800 block of Alpha Street west of Avenida Barbosa. The vehicle landed in the Sawpit Wash. Officers do not believe drugs, alcohol or distracted driving were factors, although speed may have played a role, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. Police were dispatched to the crash around 10:31 p.m. January 28.
The driver and three passengers self extricated when officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived, Gatto said. A tow truck equipped with a crane was taken to the scene to lift the car from the wash. The vehicle’s speed was not yet determined, Gatto told SGV CityWatch Wednesday afternoon. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Thousands of dollars in damage was done to City and Metro property Monday by two men police accuse of tagging the Gold Line Station and surrounding area. Witnesses helped police identify Isaac Martin Alcaraz, 19, and 20-year-old David Alexander Perez. Police stopped the suspects in a silver Toyota Corolla and discovered spray paint cans, spray tips and gloves, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. Police were called to 16017 Avenida Padilla around 6:19 p.m. January 27. Alcaraz and Perez allegedly sprayed graffiti at the Gold Line Station, the adjacent parking structure and surrounding area, Gatto said. “City of Irwindale and Metro Goldline staff are still compiling a total cost of the damage done to city and Metro property, however preliminary estimates place the damage in excess of $2,000.00,” Gatto said in a written statement.
Both men, listed as Pasadena residents, were booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and were held in lieu of $20,000 bail. “We remind transit users to report crimes and suspicious activity on Metro transit lines to 9-1-1 or by contacting Transit Watch LA at (888) 950-SAFE,” Gatto said. Eric Vargas, a 28-year-old Baldwin Park man, was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI. The collision occurred in eastbound lanes of Live Oak Avenue at the southbound 605 freeway on ramp January 19. All three drivers remained at the scene, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. “During the investigation, it was determined that one of the drivers was driving while under the influence of alcohol at the time of the traffic collision. Witnesses to the collision also reported seeing the driver driving his vehicle in excess of 100 miles per hour just prior to the collision,” Gatto said.
Vargas was medically cleared before being booked at the West Covina Police jail. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bail, Gatto said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A Metrolink train stopped just short of demolishing a car that became stuck on the tracks after hitting another vehicle Wednesday morning.
The car was stuck on the railroad tracks on Azusa Canyon Road near Los Angeles Street around 8:05 a.m. January 15. Witnesses to the collision helped pull the driver from the stuck car, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. The Metrolink engineer saw the crash as the train approached and stopped east of the crossing, Gatto said. The drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with the collision investigation. Three adults were treated on scene for minor injuries and were hospitalized. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, Gatto said. |
