Officers attempted to stop Lewis Rayshur Searles, 31, for a vehicle code violation early Saturday morning, but he fled into Duarte where he was taken into custody, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Searles was arrested around 5:11 a.m. June 19, according to Los Angeles County booking records. A leaded handgun, narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle Searles drove, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Searles is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail. He was scheduled for an appearance in the West Covina Courthouse June 22, according to Los Angeles County booking records. All lanes of Longden Avenue between Live Oak Avenue and Myrtle Avenue will be closed likely into the late night for a traffic collision investigation, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The collision occurred around 5:11 p.m. June 11, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No one else was involved in a crash. The rider died at the scene, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. Irwindale officers were called to investigate the suspicious vehicle parked in the area of Irwindale Avenue and the 210 freeway. As officers approached, the suspect took off and officers pursued him, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The suspect evading officers recklessly through Irwindale and Azusa. During the freeway portion of the chase a suspect use the right shoulder the bypass traffic and ran through traffic signals and curbs on surface streets. The driver, later identified as Cesar Nunez, 36, stopped in the 200 block of North Azusa Avenue in the city of Azusa and was taken into custody. County booking information was not readily available. The vehicle crashed in the Buena Vista channel near Alpha Street and Bateman Avenue around 1:44 a.m. June 6. The driver alleges that a mechanical failure caused the vehicle to veer off the road, according to the Irwindale Police Department. A heavy duty tow truck was required to lift the car out of the flood control channel. Although the driver alleged a mechanical failure caused the crash, investigators are still determining what happened. The shooting reportedly took place on the southbound 605 north of Arrow Highway around 11:23 p.m. June 5. The 30-year-old Azusa man was shot once, according to the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The suspect was described as a man on a black motorcycle and wearing a black vest. A handgun was reportedly used, according to the California Highway Patrol. While possibly having been shot north of Arrow Highway on the freeway, the victim likely ended up closer to Lower Azusa Road. CHP officers arrived to the southbound 605 freeway at Lower Azusa and reported a gunshot victim there, according to CHP radio traffic. Los Angeles County firefighters were also dispatched to the southbound 605 freeway at Lower Azusa Road, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch posts. This is the second shooting incident to have taken place on the southbound 605 freeway in the area Saturday. Earlier in the afternoon, a white BMW crashed into the center divider at Lower Azusa Road just after 5 p.m.. The victims claim they were shot at. A search of the freeway later yielded evidence that a shooting did take place, according to the California Highway Patrol. IRWINDALE - The California Highway Patrol has shut down all southbound lanes of the 605 freeway north of Lower Azusa Road until further notice after a vehicle crashed into the center divider after a possible shooting. The CHP was called around 5:13 p.m. to investigate the crash of a white BMW into the center divider, according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary information from CHP radio traffic indicates that the vehicle was hit possibly twice, causing damage to the windshield. Officers are now combing the freeway to look for any possible bullet casings, But it is not clear exactly what could have hit the BMW. While Kravig understands that the crash may have resulted from a possible shooting, she has yet to confirm with officers in the field if a shooting did occur. There has been no confirmation on injuries. A vehicle possibly tied to this incident is a blue or black sedan. The Irwindale Police Department has been called to assist with blocking traffic from entering the on ramp at Lower Azusa Road. A tow truck has been requested to haul away the victims vehicle for evidence, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. |
