Officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to the quarry in the 13000 block of Los Angeles Street. An officer saw that the woman had already leapt into the quarry, but her fall was broken by some brush and she was lodged on the edge of a slope, according to the Irwindale Police Department. “When officers contacted the female, she made suicidal threats and attempted to crawl to the edge of the ledge to throw herself the rest of the way down the slope,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. The quarry is several hundred feet deep. Irwindale Police Officer Shawn Cory shuffled up the quarry wall and physically detained the woman who attempted to roll off the ledge. The woman could have taken Cory with her, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Cory worked to calm the woman until firefighters rappelled down the quarry to extract both the woman and Cory. The woman was hospitalized and was given a psychological examination, according to the Irwindale Police Department.
