CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A man estimated to be in his 80s died September 23, found after a two-vehicle collision. First responders were sent to lower Azusa Road near the 605 freeway around 7:13 a.m. Tuesday and found a red Lexus and Toyota Tacoma collided with each other. One vehicle sideswiped the other, according to Sgt. Lopez of the Irwindale Police Department. The driver in his 80s was eastbound with colliding with a westbound vehicle, Lopez told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Homicide detectives announced the September 10 arrest of the suspect implicated in the fatal car-to-car shooting of a woman at an Irwindale intersection. Basilio Perez Valencia was identified a day after the fatal shooting. Irwindale and West Covina Police officers located Perez, performed a traffic stop and arrested him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Perez, an Azusa resident, was officially charged September 12 with one count each of murder, attempted murder, unlawful firearm activity and enhancements, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Aryanna Rose Avila, 23, was identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Avila suffered a wound to the upper body. She was found in the passenger seat of a white sedan adjacent from Gladstone Middle School at Enid Avenue and Arrow Highway. She was hospitalized where she later died. A gofundme has been established to help with funeral costs. Irwindale Police officers were told of a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting at Irwindale Avenue and Arrow Highway around 1:35 a.m. September 9.
After Perez was identified as a suspect, a flyer was sent to surrounding police agencies. Perez was arrested shortly after. It is not publicly clear if investigators determined a motive for the shooting. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - One crime scene was broken down, a second remains active after a fatal shooting Tuesday. The shooting reportedly occurred in the Intersection of Arrow Highway and Irwindale Avenue. The victim was transported to a hospital and died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Los Angeles County firefighters were sent to North Enid Avenue south of Arrow Highway near Gladstone Middle School at 1:38 a.m. Homicide detectives and Irwindale Police officers focused their investigation on a white sedan stopped along the street. Children and parents were seemingly unaware of what was happening during morning drop off. The motive for the shooting was not yet revealed. CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Authorities identified the driver killed in a crash while entering the westbound 210 freeway in Irwindale April 11. Daniel Fisch, a 42-year-old Monrovia man, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. He died from blunt head trauma. The death was ruled accidental. There were no other contributing factors. The crash involved a black Chevy Impala and a gray Hyundai Elantra. Witness reports indicate that at least one of the two vehicles involved in this crash was traveling at high speed. One of the vehicles rolled and flipped back onto its wheels, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The crash was reported at 4:41 p.m. on the on ramp to the 210 westbound from northbound Irwindale Avenue. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A Toyota Corolla crashed, killing the front passenger and injuring the driver early Monday morning. The crash occurred in southbound lanes of Irwindale Avenue just north of Ornelas Street just before 12:30 a.m. January 13. The Corolla struck the western curb and rolled over in front of a business in the 5400 block of Irwindale Avenue, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics declared the passenger dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital. The driver and passenger were the only people inside the crashed car. No other vehicles were involved. It is unclear what caused the driver to crash. The driver of a green SUV reportedly struck and killed the pedestrian who, according to initial reports, was running across lanes of the westbound 210 freeway Near Irwindale Ave.October 1. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A 29-year-old stolen vehicle suspect was booked on suspicion of murder July 9, accused of crashing into and killing a bicyclist on Arrow Highway near Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area. Jonathan Del Carmen Calixto, a Hanford resident, was allegedly driving the stolen white Land Rover eastbound on Arrow Highway when he collided with the bicyclist near the spillway to Santa Fe Dam around 8:31 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Irwindale Police Department. after crashing, Calixto fled the vehicle, but was caught and taken into custody. The bicyclist was identified as 50-year-old Raul Castaneda, a San Gabriel resident. Castaneda was in the marked pedestrian crosswalk when struck, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The marked crosswalk is controlled with traffic signals and further marked by flashing yellow lights warning drivers of the approaching crosswalk. The Land Rover was originally pursued by El Monte Police after the El Monte Police Department received a call of a vehicle theft in progress at a dealership on nearby Peck Road. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are assisting the Irwindale Police Department with a shooting death Sunday. The incident unfolded near the 605 freeway south of the 210 freeway around 10:30 a.m. May 26. The victim, only described as a male adult, was declared dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The exact circumstances surrounding the homicide are not publicly known. The California Highway Patrol has intermittently shut down the transition roads from the east 210 and west 210 freeway to the southbound 605, as well as the Arrow Highway on ramp to the north 605 freeway and Mt. Olive on ramp to the southbound 605 freeway during the operation. SGV CityWatch readers who traversed the freeway closures witnessed police in tactical gear, guns trained on an unspecified target. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A man was found dead Wednesday under the 210 freeway in the northern portion of Irwindale. First responders were called around 1:44 p.m. regarding a man found unresponsive on a dirt access road near the Bradbury flood control channel under the 210 freeway in the 2300 block of Central Avenue. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics declared the man dead at the scene, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Irwindale detectives are determining what led up to the man’s death, while investigators with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner are determining the cause. Investigators believe an illegal butane honey oil extraction lab was being operated inside the warehouse At 1418 E. Arrow Highway. Witnesses reported that at least one individual fully-engulfed in flames was seen running from the building. After the fire was extinguished, the charred remains of three males were found, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The person seen running from the building was found nearby. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but later died. “Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, an outside law enforcement task force was requested, responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The investigation as to the cause of the fire is ongoing,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement.
