Cayetano Chavez, 25, was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, felony evading, possessing stolen property and on an outstanding warrant, Irwindale Police said. The truck, a 2017 white GMC pickup, was taken from Montebello earlier Friday. The pursuit came to an end at 3:52 p.m., 28 minutes after OnStar notified Irwindale Police that a stolen pickup was being tracked at Arrow Highway and Calmview Street. Officers intercepted the truck at Arrow Highway and Azusa Canyon Road, Irwindale Police said. Chavez allegedly refused to pull over and led officers on a 3.7-mile pursuit, which drifted erratically from lane to lane at moderate to high speed. Chavez also allegedly ran multiple stop signs, Irwindale Police said. The truck was remotely disabled by OnStar after Chavez fled north on Avenida Barbosa and west on Alpha Street, stopping in the 700 block. Chavez was taken into custody without further incident. He was treated at the scene for a pre-existing medical condition. Chavez is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail and awaits a scheduled appearance at the West Covina Courthouse March 27.
