Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - A suspect sought after recklessly fleeing Irwindale officers during a pursuit in 2019 was arrested this January after being identified. El Monte man Ivan Gonzalez, 28, was located in the City of Azusa January 22 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Special Enforcement Team. Irwindale Police allege Gonzalez was the driver they pursued in February 2019 after he took off during a traffic stop. Officers cancelled the pursuit due to Gonzalez’s reckless driving, according to the Irwindale Police Department.
The driver fled in excess of 100 miles per hour and disappeared southbound on the 605 freeway. The California Highway Patrol later located the suspect vehicle crashed and abandoned on the 60 freeway at Crossroads Parkway, Irwindale Police said. Investigators obtained a search warrant in late 2020 after Gonzalez was identified, Irwindale Police said. Gonzalez, who is currently on Post Release Community Supervision, is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He faces felony evading charges, Irwindale Police said. CHP officers responded at 2:38 p.m. to the east 210 freeway at Irwindale Avenue October 9. Officers arrived at 2:52 p.m. and issued a Sig Alert for the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 lanes, according to Officer Tony Polizzi of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. The Sig Alert was cancelled just after 6 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was declared dead at the scene, Polizzi told SGV CityWatch. CHP investigators are still confirming the exact details of the crash. Polizzi could not confirm yet to SGV CityWatch if the crash involved a driver who fled the scene, or if the motorcyclist was the victim who died. CHP traffic logs preliminarily indicated that the motorcycle rider was reported to be down in lanes of traffic after being hit. The driver of the wrong way vehicle struck the semi around 10:48 p.m. The victim died at the scene and is still trapped inside the vehicle which is pinned under the semi truck, according to the California Highway Patrol. All southbound freeway lanes north of Ramona Boulevard will remain closed until possibly 2 a.m., the CHP said. Officers were called to the scene at 7:42 a.m. A Sig Alert was issued at 8:15 a.m. for the on ramp. The Sig Alert was closed at 9:49 a.m., according to Officer Moises Marroquin of the California Highway Patrol. Marroquin did not have any more details surrounding the response to the initial call. Firefighters were dispatched to a cardiac arrest call at 7:43 a.m. at that location, but further details from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were not available. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will investigate the cause of death. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE – One person died after a black sedan rolled over and crashed in the No. 1 lane of the 605 freeway. The crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway just south of Lower Azusa Road around 2:09 a.m. February 26. The No. 1 and 2 lanes were blocked for two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol. Debris was reportedly spread across all lanes, forcing CHP officers to temporarily close all northbound lanes.
Baldwin Park Police assisted the CHP by shutting down the northbound 605 freeway on ramp at Ramona Boulevard. The Los Angeles County Coroner arrived to retrieve the victim at 3:19 a.m. A Sig Alert, issued for the No. 1 and 2 lanes, was cancelled at 5:08 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A 23-year-old woman killed in a two-vehicle collision in Irwindale was identified Monday. Alexandra Molina was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. She died of blunt head trauma and the manner of death was ruled accidental. The collision occurred at Rivergrade Road and Live Oak Avenue Saturday, June 1 around 4:22 p.m. A northbound 2014 Volkswagen sedan collided with a westbound 2018 Dodge Challenger. The driver of the sedan was ejected from the car, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. The driver of the sedan, Molina, died at the scene. An on-duty California Highway Patrol officer was parked at a nearby Shell gas station. The officer was summoned by witnesses to the crash and arrived within seconds with Irwindale officers following shortly, Gatto said.
Both vehicles ended on the sidewalk of the northwest corner of Rivergrade and Live Oak. The adult driver and adult passenger in the Dodge Challenger were not hospitalized, Gatto said. The occupants of the Challenger are cooperating with investigators. Rivergrade Road from Stewart Avenue to Live Oak remained closed for six hours during the investigation. Intermittent street closures will occur at 6 a.m. for vehicle staging and float judging in the 16000 block of Avenida Padilla in Irwindale and the 1300 block of West Optical Drive in Azusa, Irwindale Police said. The first full street closure will begin at 1 p.m. in the 16100 block of Ornelas Street in Irwindale for float judging and vehicle staging, Irwindale Police said. The impact of intermittent full and partial road, lane and intersection closures will be felt most along Irwindale Avenue, Arrow Highway and through Live Oak Avenue beginning at 2:30 p.m. when the float escorts are scheduled to begin. Floats from Irwindale will find their way west on Avenida Padilla and south on Irwindale Road. Azusa-built floats will travel west on Ornelas Street. All floats will journey south on Irwindale Avenue to Arrow Highway. The floats will travel west on Arrow and take Live Oak Avenue west. It will take an estimated eight hours to move all the floats, Irwindale Police said. Temporary "No Parking" restrictions will be in effect on portions of Irwindale Road, Adelante Street and Ornelas Street throughout the day, Irwindale Police said. Access to and from the the Irwindale Gold Line Station and adjacent parking structure will be temporarily blocked during the float caravan. “Members of the community are allowed to observe the floats as they pass through the city, however all parking and vehicle/pedestrian traffic laws will be strictly enforced,” Irwindale Police said. “No one will be allowed to approach, touch or access any of the floats at any time.” The California Highway Patrol will be assisting Irwindale Police with portions of the road closures. A Sig Alert was issued for two hours for the HOV, No. 1, 3 and 4 lanes of traffic. A semi hauling a trailer of garbage collided with what was described as a box truck just before 1:30 p.m. The box truck reportedly overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol. Crews are on scene to upright the box truck and tow away the trailer from the heavily damaged semi. The Los Angeles County Fire Department requested a helicopter to transport an unknown number of patients, but a ground ambulance has been summoned instead. The rider was south on the 605 freeway just north of Lower Azusa Road when he crashed, according to Dispatcher Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The rider and motorcycle went over the embankment. The rider was located and taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition, Stafford said. The motorcycle flipped over the right shoulder embankment and landed in a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A police helicopter was summoned to the scene to look for additional ejected riders, but the victim transported was the only person on the motorcycle. A 2010 Mercury Milan was northbound on the 605 freeway when, for reasons not disclosed, the car went off the freeway and landed near Rivergrade Road around 3:58 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The driver, an 18-year-old man from Highland, suffered only discomfort to a shoulder and also neck soreness, according to Rodrigo Jimenez, public information officer for the CHP Baldwin Park Office. A 23-year-old San Bernardino man suffered major injuries to his right hand and pain to his abs. A 20-year-old San Bernardino man suffered a head laceration and fractured spine, Jimenez said. Investigators do not believe alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash. |
