AZUSA: Man Collapses, Dies at 7-Eleven From Possible Medical Condition, Police Said

AZUSA - Police continue to investigate the death of a man at a 7-Eleven convenience store Sunday afternoon.

An adult male appeared to suffer from a medical condition while inside the store, said Sgt. John Madaloni of the Azusa Police Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to 7-Eleven, 803 W. Arrow Hwy, at 2:10 p.m. Firefighters were told of a person who passed out and hit his head. The call was then upgraded after the person went into full arrest, said Dispatch Supervisor  Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters then requested Azusa Police to respond after firefighters were about to pronounce the person dead at the scene, according to firefighter radio traffic.

The store remained closed for a portion of the investigation. Several pieces of paper fixed to the front doors told approaching patrons the store was closed. Employees remained inside.

The man’s body was transported into an ambulance, presumably during the initial response, and it remained there until a Los Angeles County Coroner investigator and technician arrived to take it away just before 5:30 p.m.

An inspector with the Los Angeles County Health Department also arrived, specifically why was not known.

The man’s body was removed around 6 p.m., nearly four full hours after he collapsed.

The man arrived in a red pickup truck and parked it at one of the 7-Eleven gas pumps. He left personal property behind. An investigating officer took possession of the property, which included a newspaper and black-rimmed reading glasses.

The name has yet to be released until next of kin is notified.
