At that time, evidence could not be found linking the detainee to the fire that destroyed a bedroom and part of a bathroom in the 600 block of West Third Street, Bailey said. AZUSA - A suspect has been detained after a fire burned inside a bedroom and bathroom inside a home Saturday morning. The fire burned in the 600 block of West Third Street. Police have detained a person after the fire was extinguished, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. There is a possible burn victim, but the extent of injuries has not been disclosed. Firefighters were dispatched around 10:10 a.m. Cause investigators with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene. Paul Martinez, a 62-year-old Azusa man, was arrested after crashing in the 5400 block of Rockvale Avenue. Martinez is accused of assault with a deadly weapon against an officer after fleeing police when they tried to contact him, according to the Azusa Police Department. Police were sent to the 600 block of South Azusa Avenue just after 4 p.m. April 2 for a domestic violence investigation when they encountered Martinez who fled to a nearby vehicle. “As officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred,” according to Azusa police in a written statement. Martinez crashed into a fence according to the California Highway Patrol. Martinez was not struck by gunfire. He was evaluated at the scene of the crash by Los Angeles County firefighter paramedics before being booked in Azusa police jail. Martinez was booked on suspicion of several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and attempted murder, Azusa police said. The female victim of the report of domestic battery was evaluated at the scene of the initial crime for moderate injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. No officers were injured. County booking records for Martinez were not readily available. The incident took place in the 400 block of North Dalton Avenue around 5:13 p.m. Azusa Police called firefighters to respond to the scene, according to to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peter of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Police informed firefighters that the victim was stabbed, but Peters could not verify the veracity of the report and deferred further questions to the Azusa Police Department. Azusa Police supervisors were unavailable for phone calls seeking additional information. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A motorcyclist was taken to a trauma center Thursday afternoon and died after colliding with a sedan, an Azusa Police Lieutenant said.
The collision occurred around 2:32 p.m. February 20 at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue. A motorcycle rider was heading eastbound on Arrow Highway and possibly lost control of his motorcycle, potentially heading into opposing traffic where the rider collided head-on with a sedan, according to Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval of the Azusa Police Department. Azusa police publicized news of the riders death around 5:37 p.m. Speed may have played a factor in the crash, Sandoval said. The intersection remains closed. Eastbound Arrow Highway at Aton in Irwindale remains blocked, as well as northbound Vincent Avenue at Chadmont Street. Westbound traffic at Burwood Avenue is also blocked. A train operator noticed an unconscious man on the platform at the station in the 900 block of North Citrus Avenue January 29. Deputies and Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived. The latter agency attempted to revive the man, but were unsuccessful, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. Firefighters were dispatched to an “unconscious person” call at 3:53 a.m. The response was changed to a “cardiac arrest” call, according to a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will be handling the investigation, Montenegro said. “They’ll make a determination as to what caused the death. The initial appearance looks due to natural causes,” Montenegro told SGV CityWatch.
Montenegro did not know that man’s age range. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of a teen implicated in 2018 shooting death of a man. The unidentified teen was extradited from Virginia January 21, booked in the Azusa Police jail and was subsequently formally charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on one count of murder, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The arrest follows another arrest made of a juvenile earlier this year in the same shooting that left Abel Balderas dead in the 600 block of North Rockvale Avenue. The first teen arrested was also charged with one count of murder, the Sheriff’s Department said. Balderas, 36, was gunned down November 21, 2018, found on a porch on the second story of an apartment building where he lived.

Police responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street before 4:30 a.m. December 25 and discovered the wounded man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:27 a.m. to a gunshot victim but did not transport a victim, according to dispatch supervisor Michael Pitman of the Los Angeles county fire department. The victim died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are in route to assist Azusa Police with an investigation. The victim is only described as a Hispanic man. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. The fire burned in a two-story apartment complex in the 800 block of W. 13th St. Firefighters were dispatched at 9:12 p.m., extinguished the flames at 9:46 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Rangel initially told SGV CityWatch that one person perished, but Franklin Lopez of Los Angeles County Fire confirmed the actual number of deaths. KTLA 5 reported a father and his disabled adult son were the people found dead. Cause investigators with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to examine the fire, Rangel said, adding that there were no injured people transported. One other person was hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The cause is still being determined. An adjacent unit has smoke damage and the occupants will be displaced, according to Los Angeles County Firefighters on scene. The fire was burning in the Sylvan Villa Estates, 830 S. Azusa Ave. The fire was officially knocked down as of 5:37 p.m. It is not yet clear if any people were inside the mobile home when the fire ignited. The condition of the dogs is not immediately clear. Animal control officers were called to the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters initially arrived to light smoke coming from a single-wide mobile home and found flames burning within. Firefighters responded to Azusa Avenue near East Roland Street to outside a church for a medical emergency and report of a man down at 10:06 p.m. September 24. Firefighters declared the person dead on arrival, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The person was declared dead around 10:12 p.m. The probably cause of death was not disclosed. |
