The fire, dispatched to firefighters at 7:10 p.m., is burning near East Sierra Madre Avenue and Yucca Ridge Road. The fire is burning in steep terrain, is moving slowly and has the potential for 500 acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One helicopter is on scene and at least one additional helicopter is being requested. A full first-alarm brush response has been dispatched. Trains in both directions have been stopped and bus bridges are provided for passengers, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The pedestrian was hit near the Virginia Avenue crossing around 12:47 p.m. July 31. The pedestrian was not near the roadway when struck, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer with the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at 12:56 p.m. One person on the train experienced difficulty breathing and required help, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau have been called to the scene, which is standard operating procedure for unnatural deaths, Montenegro said. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau are assisting Azusa Police with a possible search at University Drive near Azusa Pacific University, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department stated the incident began at Jack In the Box, 877 E. Alosta Ave. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:58 p.m.
The nature of the assault was not disclosed. An Azusa Police supervisor was unavailable to provide information. The victim, only described to first responders as a male wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, was seen in the riverbed near the Army National Guard, 1351 Sierra Madre Ave., around 7:45 p.m.
The victim may have been caught by the water after attempting to cross on a bicycle, according to preliminary information from Azusa Police. The last known location of the victim firefighters and Azusa Police were told was somewhere between the San Gabriel River Bike Path and Foothill Boulevard. The fire is burning in light to medium vegetation on flat terrain in the 2000 block of North San Gabriel Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The source of the fire, dispatched to firefighters at 12:13 a.m., was not specified. The man brandished a knife at deputies who attempted to make contact with him in the 400 block of East Arrow Highway just After 4 p.m. May 3. The man jumped into a van at the motel, according to Sgt. Roth of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The man is barricaded in a room at the Arrow Inn, 469 E. Arrow Hwy. The barricaded man’s mother is on scene and spoke to her son, 31, to peacefully surrender. Deputies are being assisted by the Sheriff’s Mental Evaluation Team. The California Highway Patrol is also assisting, Roth said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - San Dimas deputies are searching for a pursuit suspect hiding in an unincorporated neighborhood near Azusa.
The chase of a grand theft auto suspect reportedly originated in the Ontario area, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Deputies are concentrating their search in the 18200 block of East Payson Street. Firefighters have sent multiple units to a person up in a tree at 18202 E. Payson where the search is concentrated, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver and at least two passengers were being sought by law enforcement in a high-speed chase which entered the San Gabriel Valley some time before 3:30 p.m. The pursuit exited the west 210 freeway onto Azusa Avenue in Azusa. The California Highway Patrol and Azusa Officers backed away from the pursuit due to unsafe speeds. The driver fled officers at high speed on surface streets and could be seen cutting off other drivers. Unknown property was being thrown out the vehicle windows. One passenger fled the vehicle and ran into a home in the unincorporated neighborhoods near Azusa. The suspect continued to drive around erratically until a right front tire began to fall off. The suspect casually parked the vehicle and ran through residential areas until he took refuge under a large tree. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A 9-1-1 call yielded a lifeless newborn girl inside a dumpster Thursday afternoon. Police were called at 3:43 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 600 block of East Fifth Street. The newborn was found in the dumpster behind the apartment complex, according to Lt. Robert Chivas of the Azusa Police Department. “The newborn was motionless. There were no signs of life,” Chivas said. The newborn was treated by both Azusa Police officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters. The newborn was taken to an area hospital where doctors could not revive her and she was declared dead at 4:37 p.m., Chivas said.
No suspect has been identified and remains out of custody. The lieutenant could not comment on who made the 9-1-1 call or who found the child first. Rockvale Avenue from Lee Place to East Fifth Street remains blocked during a Homicide investigation. Anyone with information on a suspect is urged to call the Azusa Police Department at 626-812-3200. The baby was found in a dumpster on East 5th Street near Rockvale Avenue around 3:43 p.m. The baby was taken to an area hospital where doctors declared it deceased. It is unclear how the baby was found, or who the baby belongs to. The baby was found in a dumpster in an apartment complex behind apartments on the southwest corner of 5th Street and Rockvale Avenue. |
