The shooting unfolded at 7:44 p.m. in the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue just north of Gladstone Street July 14, 2019. John Medrano, 24, was struck by gunfire while walking with a teen boy. The suspect is believed to be a Sentinel Boys gang member. The trigger man exited a black 2017 Toyota Corolla 4-DR, opened fire, got back in the car and fled, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Medrano was hospitalized, but later died. The boy was uninjured, Homicide investigators said. The Corolla was driven away eastbound on Gladstone Street. A witness to the shooting helped investigators develop the composite sketch. The suspect is only described as a Hispanic man in his 20s and stands 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. The unidentified teen was extradited from Virginia January 21, booked in the Azusa Police jail and was subsequently formally charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on one count of murder, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The arrest follows another arrest made of a juvenile earlier this year in the same shooting that left Abel Balderas dead in the 600 block of North Rockvale Avenue. The first teen arrested was also charged with one count of murder, the Sheriff’s Department said. Balderas, 36, was gunned down November 21, 2018, found on a porch on the second story of an apartment building where he lived.

The victim was 22-year-old Andrew Andalon of La Puente, Jerry McKibben, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, told SGV CityWatch. Andalon was in a carport in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street just before 4:30 a.m. December 25 when a suspect pulled up and fired multiple rounds, striking Andalon at least once, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Andalon died at the scene.
The vehicle fled westbound through an alleyway. It is unclear if detectives have a suspect vehicle description, or description of the shooter. Police responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street before 4:30 a.m. December 25 and discovered the wounded man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:27 a.m. to a gunshot victim but did not transport a victim, according to dispatch supervisor Michael Pitman of the Los Angeles county fire department. The victim died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are in route to assist Azusa Police with an investigation. Rene Orozco Garcia, 23, and Ronaldo Garcia, 20, are both suspected in the killing of Alex Garcia, gunned down at 170 E. Payson St November 1, according to Deputy James Nagao of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Rene Orozco Garcia and Ronaldo Garcia have been identified as possible suspects and are wanted for questioning,” Nagao said in a written statement.

Officers responding to calls of gunfire just before 9:30 p.m. November 2 near West First Street and North Orange Avenue found a wounded woman, according to Sgt. Erin Coulter of the Azusa Police Department. “The victim was immediately rendered medical aid by Azusa officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel; she was subsequently transported to an area trauma center,” Coulter said. The woman’s condition is not immediately known. Police are working to establish a motive.

The unidentified victim, who was shot inside a vehicle, was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, according to Deputy Erin Lou of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:59 p.m. A suspect in another vehicle reportedly pulled the trigger, Liu said. The victim was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both suspects are described as Hispanic and between 15 and 16 years old. They are believed to be part of the Sentinel Boys Street Gang, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The victim, 36-year-old Abel Balderas, was a resident of the apartment complex where he was gunned down, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Balderas was found critically wounded on the second floor of the building near a doorway around 12:38 a.m. at 625 N. Rockvale Ave., apartment C, Sheriff’s homicide detectives said.

The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. at West Gladstone Street and South Azusa Avenue July 14. Homicide investigators have yet to reveal a suspect description.
The victim may have been at, or near, a bus stop when a black sedan drove up. At least one suspect opened fire, striking the victim. Police arrived and found a victim, only described as a Hispanic male, face down in the street.
