The unnamed suspect was witnessed carrying around what an eyewitness described as an assault rifle at Pioneer Park, 1300 N. Dutton Ave., Just after 1:30 p.m. April 5, According to the Azusa Police Department. The suspect drove away from the park, but officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle and he was located in the area of foothill Boulevard and Vernon Avenue in Azusa. The suspect refused to stop for officers and fled into Duarte where he eventually crashed Into a fence after losing control near Huntington Drive and Las Lomas Avenue, Azusa police said. “He was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers after a brief struggle, which included The suspect resisting and spitting on officers,” according to the Azusa police department in a written statement. Several replica assault rifles and handguns were located in the suspect’s vehicle. A motive for the suspect’s possession of these replica weapons is not known. The 22-year-old suspect from Rosemead was booked on suspicion of felony evading, brandishing a replica firearm, Resisting arrest and hit-and-run, Azusa police said. No police officers, or civilians were injured during the pursuit. The collision occurred around 2:32 p.m. February 20 at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue. A motorcycle rider was heading eastbound on Arrow Highway and possibly lost control of his motorcycle, potentially heading into opposing traffic where the rider collided head-on with a sedan, according to Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval of the Azusa Police Department. Azusa police publicized news of the riders death around 5:37 p.m. Speed may have played a factor in the crash, Sandoval said. The intersection remains closed. Eastbound Arrow Highway at Aton in Irwindale remains blocked, as well as northbound Vincent Avenue at Chadmont Street. Westbound traffic at Burwood Avenue is also blocked. The crash occurred around 1:17 p.m. in the 100 block of South Pasadena Avenue. The driver struck a fence before going through a wall at the home where three people in, according to Sergeant Erin Coulter of the Azusa Police Department. An adult and two children inside did not required any treatment, Coulter said. The driver was treated at the scene. Building inspectors with the City of Azusa are examining the home’s structural integrity. It doe not appear drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, Coulter said. The bicyclist was seriously injured in the crash in the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue. The man, only listed as a 65-year-old West Covina resident, was taken to an area trauma center where he died, according to Azusa Police Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval. The crash occurred around 1:27 p.m. outside of Max’s Mexican Cuisine, 635 N. Azusa Ave. The Azusa Police Department Traffic Division investigated the crash with help from the La Verne Police Department Traffic Division. Any witnesses to the crash are urged to call the Azusa Police Department at 636-812-3200. The collision occurred just before 1:30 PM January 27 in the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, according to Sergeant Bailey of the Azusa police department. Bailey did not know the rider’s current condition. Azusa Avenue from Sixth Street to Foothill Boulevard remains closed for an investigation, Bailey told SGV CityWatch. The collision occurred outside of Max’s Mexican Cuisine, 635 N. Azusa Ave. Bailey does not believe the collision was a hit and run. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A motorist crashed into a fire hydrant and sheared it off Wednesday morning, an Azusa Police sergeant said. The collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. January 8 at South Vernon Avenue and West Paramount Street. The unidentified driver later died, according to Sgt. Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. Bailey could not provide more details. A collision report has yet to be finished. The driver may have suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash, according to Lt. Tommy Avila of the Azusa Police Department.
Firefighters transported one victim to a nearby hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A watch commander at the county coroner could not yet provide information on the victim’s identification. The crash occurred at the Off-Highway Vehicle area along Highway 39 near East Fork Road around 4:09 p.m. Five people were in the vehicle, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. Two adults and a child with minor injuries were ultimately taken by helicopter to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatcher Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The two other people inside the overturned vehicle signed out against medical advice, Peters said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Drugs and alcohol are not yet believed to be factors in a crash that sent five people to two hospitals Thursday night, an Azusa Police sergeant said. A truck veered off the road and crashed into a light pole while southbound on Azusa Veterans Way around 11:25 p.m. October 17. The truck careened down an embankment and landed in a mangled mess in a small residential parking lot near North Cornejo Way north of Barberry Way. Three of the five occupants were ejected from the truck after it fell roughly 30 feet from the roadway, according to Sgt. Nick Covarrubias of the Azusa Police Department. All five patients were determined to have moderate injuries. Four were transported to a local hospital for treatment, one was taken to a trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Investigators have yet to determine the speed of the truck before the crash, Covarrubias said.
“I don’t know if was speeding or not. They haven’t determined the exact speed yet,” Covarrubias told SGV CityWatch. “As of right now, we don’t believe that alcohol or drugs were involved.” The five people injured were confirmed to be Azusa Pacific University students, according to Shino Simons, vice president for student affairs at Azusa Pacific University. “To safeguard student confidentiality, we are unable to release names or provide further details. Our Student Affairs team will come alongside these students and their loved ones and offer support,” Simons said in a staff email obtained by SGV CityWatch. Perez died from blunt force traumatic injuries. His death was ruled accidental. The crash occurred at 819 N. Citrus Ave. near Citrus College just after 3:36 p.m. August 4. The victim was declared dead at the scene at 3:42 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A large memorial was set up for Perez at the crash scene, which was still marked with orange spray paint Wednesday. Candles still flickered in the morning sun. The silver truck appeared to be headed west on Foothill Boulevard and took the curve in the road towards southbound Citrus Avenue when it struck the metal guard rail and overturned.
