CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A 22-year-old man accused of killing a Baldwin Park Police officer, wounding his partner and killing another man has been named. Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen was booked on suspicion of two counts of murder. He is in stable condition at a hospital pending transfer to a jail facility, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The shooting reportedly stemmed from a dispute over residential parking, according to ABC 7 Eyewitness News. A housewarming party was underway in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue May 31. Medina allegedly confronted the man, who remains publicly unidentified, only described as a Pasadena man in his 40s. When the man didn’t park elsewhere, Medina allegedly shot and killed him. Baldwin Park Police officers Samuel Riveros and Anthony Pimentel went to the scene and were fired upon. Both were struck by gunfire. Riveros would not survive his wounds. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will soon file charges against Medina. Medina is being held in lieu of $4,000,000 bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - One police officer was killed, another remains hospitalized after exchanging gunfire with a suspect Saturday evening. Three sources reported to the Los Angeles Times newspaper of the officer’s death. One other person was wounded in the shooting, and this person has since been taken into custody, according to Fox 11 news. First responders were sent to the location on Filhurst Street south of Los Angeles Street in Baldwin Park around 7:16 p.m. Saturday, May 31. One of the wounded officers Was flown by sheriffs helicopter to Los Angeles General Medical Center, the other was taken by a ground ambulance, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is not yet clear why Baldwin Park Police officers first responded to the location. The city has been plagued by an increase in gun violence lately, according to Baldwin Park News Online, a local news website which has closely followed the unfolding gun violence, including a shooting that occurred earlier Saturday. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A barricade continues at Olive Middle Thursday after someone entered school grounds, caused a disruption and took refuge in an office, police said. “All students and staff have been safely evacuated from the premises to a nearby school campus (Walnut Elementary) where they are being safely, dismissed to parents/guardians,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement. It is not publicly clear if this barricaded person is affiliated with the school, or has a child who is enrolled there. There is apparently no threat to any students or school personnel, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A 23-year-old relative was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder after three people were found dead inside a house Thursday night. The suspect, only identified as a Asian man, was detained at the start of the murder investigation December 26. The suspect is not only related to all three murder victims, but also resided at the location. His exact relation to the victims is not being disclosed at this time, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. While the Sheriff’s Department did not disclose how the victims died, Los Angeles news stations are reporting that the victims were stabbed to death. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will reveal the cause of death and the victims’ identities. The deaths of two females and one male were discovered in the 4700 block of Bogart Avenue around 6:48 p.m. December 26. The suspect allegedly was detained after fleeing the scene in a vehicle which crashed. Drivers reported a pedestrian walking with traffic between the number five lane in the shoulder around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 19. No description of the pedestrian has been given. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has yet to respond. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A semi hauling a 40,000-pound trailer overturned and possibly caused several vehicles to crash into it on the east I-10 freeway just east of the 605 freeway.
The California Highway Patrol is holding all lanes of the eastbound side while firefighters work to treat patients, two of which were pulled after being trapped in a vehicle. The northbound 605 transition to the east I-10 is also being held. All eastbound traffic is being diverted to the south 605, according to the California Highway Patrol. The investigation is taking place in the 3400 block of Cosbey Avenue May 31. Baldwin Park Police officers responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records show that firefighters were dispatched at 1:39 p.m. to a traffic collision at the location. Images from the scene show officers seemingly focused on a dark-green-colored SUV. It is not completely clear if the fatality resulted from a traffic collision. CHP traffic logs indicate that someone was performing chest compressions on the victim described as an elderly woman. Both the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to the offramp just after 11 a.m. April 19. The fire is burning at 13443 Dalewood Street. Fire initially was heavily affecting two units on the property, but that was before firefighters at the scene requested a third-alarm response for additional personnel, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. There is a heavy fire presence, as well as a police presence in the area. Firefighters have asked the California highway patrol to close off the Baldwin Park Boulevard offramp from the eastbound I-10 freeway. |
