CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Nearly a year later, investigators released a critical incident briefing on the shooting that killed a Baldwin Park Police officer and a civilian. The briefing includes body-worn camera recordings from responding officers of the May 31, 2025 incident in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros, 35, a nine-year veteran of the department, was killed. Darius Wong, 43, was the civilian who was shot an killed. Baldwin Park Police officer Anthony Pimentel was struck in the face by flying bits of glass after the suspect fired upon his responding patrol vehicle and has since recovered.

The suspect, 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina Berumen, was last in Pomona Superior Court April 16 for a preliminary hearing and is scheduled for further proceedings April 30.
Medina was officially charged with two counts of murder, two counts of attempted premeditated murder and possession of an assault weapon. He was additionally charged with special allegations of murder for financial gain, murder of a police engaged in duties, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and the special allegation of multiple murders, according to Los Angeles County booking records.. ********** Copyright 2026. CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 12:29 p.m.: Sheriff’s Homicide investigators announced the shooting victim hospitalized died earlier today. Two men and one woman were shot and killed Friday. It is unclear if a suspect is being sought. BALDWIN PARK - An investigation has just begun after three people were shot, two fatally in a neighborhood Friday. The shooting occurred on Millbury Avenue near Bresee Avenue. First responders were called just after 5 a.m. April 24. Investigators focused their attention on a white car parked on the street, doors swung wide open. Minutes after arriving on scene, a battalion chief with the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that chest compressions were initiated on all three victims. Shortly after, the battalion chief declared two people dead at the scene. Two people who likely knew the victims in an unknown capacity were standing outside the police tape. One was inconsolable. It is not immediately clear if a suspect is at-large, or is one of the people wounded by gunfire. The motive for the shooting is not immediately known. ********** Copyright 2026. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Violence continues to rock the city with the latest shooting, which ended up taking a juvenile’s life April 18. The shooting occurred in the 12900 block of Bess Avenue just after 5 a.m. Saturday. The juvenile died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is unclear if investigators have identified a suspect, or if a suspect is in custody, or remains at-large. CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 12:30 p.m.: Correction: LA County Fire Captain Brian Kight initially reported the shooting investigation revealed no gunshot victim, but the Sheriff’s homicide unit reports that a male juvenile was confirmed shot and killed at the scene. Updated story coming. BALDWIN PARK - An early-morning shooting occurred in a 7-Eleven driveway Saturday. Both the lot and store are closed at 7-Eleven, 12954 Bess Ave. First responders were called around 5:10 a.m. There were no victims transported by firefighter paramedics. No gunshot victims were found, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Brian Kight. Firefighters cleared the scene after 21 minutes. A raucous house party devolved into gunfire Sunday, April 12 in the 3700 block of Monterey Avenue. No one was found wounded by gunfire. One week ago a verbal fight led to a stabbing in an In N Out parking lot, 13850 Francisquito Ave., April 11. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - The gunman accused of shooting and wounding two people in Baldwin Park Sunday night was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Covina, police said Monday. Officers responded to a reported shooting near a business in the 3100 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard just before 9:30 p.m. February 15. A man and woman were found wounded. They were treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital and were last listed in critical condition, according to the Baldwin Park police department. Officers were able to determine that the victims and gunman were acquainted with each other. Officers tracked down the gunman who is found inside his vehicle along Hollenbeck Avenue and Nubia Avenue in Covina some time before 12:30 a.m. Los Angeles County firefighters were called to by on standby at 12:45 a.m. Officers approached the vehicle and determined the suspect turned the weapon on himself, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Things went back to normal Monday afternoon after a caller threatened two adjacent banks with explosive devices, police said. The unidentified caller phoned the corporate offices of Chase Bank, 14483 E. Ramona Blvd., and Bank of America, 14401 E. Ramona Blvd. The Baldwin Park Police Department was notified around 1:13 p.m. December 22. The banks’ corporate offices ordered employees to evacuate as a precaution. An El Pollo Loco, which sits between the banks, was evacuated by police, according to Lt. Evan Martin of the Baldwin Park Police Department. The West Covina Police Department assisted by providing a K9 unit to help with searches, while the Irwindale Police Department assisted with providing traffic control. Both banks were cleared around 3:45 p.m. Investigators continue to trace the source of the calls, Martin told SGV CityWatch. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Multiple suspects were arrested after police served a search warrant and uncovered a marijuana grow operation December 15. A report of suspicious activity was made in the 3800 block of Downing Avenue. Patrol officers and detectives witnessed activity they say is consistent with a marijuana operation, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Upon serving the search warrant, police detained several suspects and marijuana was seized along with a weapon. The alleged illicit marijuana cultivators also bypassed electric conduits to steal electricity for their operation. “The detained individuals were subsequently arrested on charges related to illegal marijuana cultivation, weapons violations, and utility theft,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A shocking crime unfolded before sunrise November 17 after a shooting claimed two adult family members and wounded a child. The shootings are said to have been perpetrated by Qihao Jin, 35, who is estranged from his wife and targeted her family in the 12700 block of Royston Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were called to a report of a suspicious person and possible death at the home. Officers were met by three family members, two men and a boy, who said a shooting took place with victims down. Two adults and a 10-year-old girl were found wounded. Despite being given aid, the adults died. The girl survived and remains hospitalized, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The deceased victims are 61-year-old female Yulan Wang, and her husband, 61-year-old male, Qiufu Jiang. Jin’s wife was not at the home where the shooting occurred. Investigators identified Qihao Jin as a suspect and identified a vehicle late Monday night used to flee the shooting scene. An alert to local agencies was distributed. Jin was located in his vehicle in the 100 block of Vermont Street in the city of Anaheim, where Anaheim officers found Jin dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were sent to the 12700 block of Royston Street around 5 a.m. November 17. Firefighters arrived at 5:22 a.m. and transported one patient to a hospital at 5:57 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A former police officer has been officially charged with 29 felony counts of grand theft related to the shocking theft of more than $104,000 from Baldwin Park Police Association Union funds. Andres Villalobos, 35, is accused of transferring the cash from from the Association’s account into his personal account, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He was taken into custody November 6. After being elected treasurer in 2021, Villalobos is accused of making the transfers over an 18-month period from July 2022 to August 2023. He has since been terminated. When he was arrested, Villalobos was discovered to have in his possession two law enforcement flash-bang grenades. He was additionally charged with two felony counts of possession of a destructive device or explosive and one felony count of commercial burglary, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He faces nearly 27 years in state prison if convicted as charged. Villalobos was arraigned November 10. He pleaded not guilty. A preliminary hearing setting is scheduled for Nov. 24 in Department 132 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
