Authorities Name Officers Shot in Baldwin Park

BALDWIN PARK - Investigators named the officer wounded and the officer killed in a May 31 neighborhood shootout.

Officer Samuel Riveros, 35, died after being taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center. Officer Anthony Pimentel, taken to the same hospital, was treated for his injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Pimentel was apparently released from the hospital.

Both officers were met with gunfire after arriving to the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue May 31 around 7:12 p.m. Police were called to a reported victim down and a suspect firing a weapon.

The suspect survived being shot and is recovering at a hospital.

“This is a heartbreaking and deeply devastating tragedy. Officer Riveros made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. He, along with Officer Pimentel and their fellow officers, bravely responded to a dangerous call, fully aware of the risks involved,” according to the Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. “Officer Riveros gave his life in service to others, a profound testament to his unwavering dedication to duty and selfless courage.
His loss is profoundly felt—not only by his family and colleagues, but by the entire Baldwin Park community and law enforcement family.”

The suspect’s rifle was recovered at the scene.

The name of the man discovered dead upon the officers’ arrival has yet to be publicly identified.

One Other Person Killed in Baldwin Park Neighborhood Where Officers Came Under Fire

BALDWIN PARK - The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting of a Baldwin Park Police Officer and one other person Saturday.

Officers responded to a report of a man firing a rifle and a person down in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue May 31 came under fire. The arriving officers were met with gunfire. In the chaos the officers were struck while firing back, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.

“Other officers immediately went to their assistance. An officer-involved shooting did occur at that time,” Luna said in a midnight press conference.

Backup officers arrived and apparently also fired upon the suspect.

An as-of-yet unidentified victim was dead at the scene.

Fellow Baldwin Park officers frantically packaged the gravely wounded officer to a waiting ambulance, which then handed him off to a Sheriff’s helicopter to take him to Los Angeles General Medical Center where he eventually died. The other wounded officer is still being treated.

Investigators believe the weapon used by the suspect in the shootings has been recovered.

It is unclear if the suspect is tied to the spate of shootings that have plagued Baldwin Park recently.

One Officer Killed, Another Still Hospitalized in Baldwin Park Shooting

BALDWIN PARK - One police officer was killed, another remains hospitalized after exchanging gunfire with a suspect Saturday evening.

Three sources reported to the Los Angeles Times newspaper of the officer’s death.

One other person was wounded in the shooting, and this person has since been taken into custody, according to Fox 11 news.

First responders were sent to the location on Filhurst Street south of Los Angeles Street in Baldwin Park around 7:16 p.m. Saturday, May 31.

One of the wounded officers Was flown by sheriffs helicopter to Los Angeles General Medical Center, the other was taken by a ground ambulance, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

It is not yet clear why Baldwin Park Police officers first responded to the location.

The city has been plagued by an increase in gun violence lately, according to Baldwin Park News Online, a local news website which has closely followed the unfolding gun violence, including a shooting that occurred earlier Saturday.

Juvenile on Bike Struck by Baldwin Park Officer Trying to Stop Reckless Driver

BALDWIN PARK - A juvenile bicyclist is recovering Wednesday, having been struck by a Baldwin Park Police officer vehicle.

The officer was stopped at a red light at Pacific Avenue and Vineland Avenue when the officer witnessed a speeding vehicle that was driven through the intersection against a red light. With the green light, the officer completed a left turn and struck the bicyclist who was in the crosswalk, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.

The collision occurred just before 7 a.m. May 14.

“The officer immediately rendered and requested medical aid, and remained with the juvenile until the arrival of the Los Angeles County Fire Department,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement.

The speeding driver fled the scene.

The California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office is investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision is urgent to call 626-338-1164.

Baldwin Park police officers are attempting to identify the speeding driver. Any witnesses to the reckless driver or urged to call the Baldwin Park Police Department at 626-960-1955.

DA Charges Man Accused of Baldwin Park Triple Murder

BALDWIN PARK - The 23-year-old suspect accused of stabbing to death family members the day after Christmas was officially charged with three counts of murder.

Kyle Chester De Los Reyes Also faces special allegations of using a deadly weapon and committing multiple murders, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Mia Chantelle Narvaez, 8, Paul Sebastian Manangan, 16, and Rona Nate, 44, were named by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Manangan died from multiple sharp force injuries. Exams have yet to be scheduled for Narvaez and Nate.

According to a gofundme fundraiser, Nate was the mother to Narvaez and Manangan.

The deaths were discovered in the 4700 block of Bogart Avenue around 6:48 p.m. December 26.

De Los Reyes is not only related to all three murder victims, but also resided at the location. He was detained after he crashed while allegedly fleeing the scene.

De Los Reyes is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court January 15, 2025.

LOS ANGELES - A child, teen and an adult murdered in Baldwin Park the day after Christmas were all identified recently.

The suspect, only identified as a Asian man, was detained at the start of the murder investigation December 26. The suspect is not only related to all three murder victims, but also resided at the location. His exact relation to the victims is not being disclosed at this time, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

While the Sheriff’s Department did not disclose how the victims died, Los Angeles news stations are reporting that the victims were stabbed to death.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will reveal the cause of death and the victims’ identities.

BALDWIN PARK - A man was shot dead in a Baldwin Park neighborhood early Monday morning.

The gunshot victim, only described as an adult male, was found in the 13800 block of Kenmore Avenue. First responders were sent to the location around 2:50 a.m. October 14.

The gunshot victim was assessed by Los Angeles County firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not publicly clear if a suspect has been identified or taken in the custody yet.

Pedestrian Killed on I-10 Freeway in Baldwin Park

BALDWIN PARK - The slow lane has been shut down for an undetermined amount of time after a pedestrian was struck and killed on the westbound I-10 freeway just west of Baldwin Park Blvd. early Tuesday morning.

Drivers reported a pedestrian walking with traffic between the number five lane in the shoulder around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 19.

No description of the pedestrian has been given.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has yet to respond.
