BALDWIN PARK - Freeway lanes are reopened after the driver of a pickup truck was found dead after a solo crash Christmas Eve.

The crash occurred on the southbound 605 freeway just south of Ramona Boulevard before 1 p.m. December 24. The truck, described as a gray Toyota Tacoma, came to a rest in the slow lane after flipping several times, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs.

The driver died inside the truck.

A Sig Alert was requested just before 2 p.m. for the No. 3 and 4 lanes. All closures were canceled around 4:47 p.m.

The driver has yet to be publicly identified until next of kin have been notified.

BALDWIN PARK - A motorcycle crash victim died after being taken to a hospital Friday morning.

The intersection of Baldwin Park Boulevard and Los Angeles Street remains closed for a collision investigation. First responders were sent to the intersection just after 9:30 a.m. December 5, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.

Just before 10:30 a.m. the rider died.

The rider was described as being in his 30s. His name is not publicly available until next of kin are notified.

BALDWIN PARK - Screams could be heard from crashed vehicles involved in a collision that overturned a semi and tractor trailer Tuesday.

The crash has closed all lanes of the transition road from the northbound 605 Freeway to the east I-10 Freeway and from the eastbound I-10 to the northbound 605 freeway.

The crash was reported around 10:25 p.m. December 2.

It is unclear how many other vehicles were involved in the crash, but early reports indicated as many as two having collided with the tractor trailer.

Possible injuries were not disclosed.

A 9-1-1 caller reported to dispatchers that the sound of the crash could be heard from their residence and that screaming could be heard, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs.

It is unclear what the 40,000-pound trailer was carrying when it overturned.

BALDWIN PARK - A juvenile bicyclist is recovering Wednesday, having been struck by a Baldwin Park Police officer vehicle.

The officer was stopped at a red light at Pacific Avenue and Vineland Avenue when the officer witnessed a speeding vehicle that was driven through the intersection against a red light. With the green light, the officer completed a left turn and struck the bicyclist who was in the crosswalk, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.

The collision occurred just before 7 a.m. May 14.

“The officer immediately rendered and requested medical aid, and remained with the juvenile until the arrival of the Los Angeles County Fire Department,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement.

The speeding driver fled the scene.

The California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office is investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision is urgent to call 626-338-1164.

Baldwin Park police officers are attempting to identify the speeding driver. Any witnesses to the reckless driver or urged to call the Baldwin Park Police Department at 626-960-1955.

BALDWIN PARK - The slow lane has been shut down for an undetermined amount of time after a pedestrian was struck and killed on the westbound I-10 freeway just west of Baldwin Park Blvd. early Tuesday morning.

Drivers reported a pedestrian walking with traffic between the number five lane in the shoulder around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 19.

No description of the pedestrian has been given.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has yet to respond.

BALDWIN PARK - A DUI/driver license checkpoint is scheduled for Friday September 22, the Baldwin Park Police Department announced.

The checkpoint will be operated at an undisclosed location from Friday at 6 p.m. to Midnight.

“The purpose of checkpoints is not necessarily to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

BALDWIN PARK - A full closure of the northbound 605 freeway just south of the I-10 freeway opened after fatal crash investigation Sunday morning.

First responders were called around 2 a.m., July 9 to a report of a sedan that overturned and landed on its roof. A motorcycle and possibly a black Mercedes-Benz were also involved in the crash, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs.

The California Highway Patrol stopped all northbound lanes south of Valley Boulevard and diverted traffic to the west I-10 freeway. By 2:21 a.m., a request for an evidence tow was made.

Two other people were hospitalized.

By 6:16 a.m. Caltrans ended the full closure and northbound traffic was free to move again, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It is not immediately clear what caused the crash.

BALDWIN PARK - The residents of a home escaped serious injury Thursday after an SUV, driven by a suspected drunk driver rolled and crashed into the front of the house.

The crash occurred in the 13700 block of East Ramona Boulevard Just after 7 a.m., Thursday, June 29. The crash also sheared a fire hydrant, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic.

According to Johnny Higuera, 56, who resides on the property, his mother was in the kitchen when the SUV struck and heavily damaged the house. His mother, 76-year-old Norma Rodriguez, was thrown several feet, but escaped serious injury.

Apparently, crashes are common at that intersection with Kenmore Avenue. Another home avoided damage after a vehicle crashed and stopped short of hitting the home.

Higuera and a few others had to help the driver out of the crashed SUV. The driver appeared drunk, Higuera told SGV CityWatch.

The driver was apparently arrested, but SGV CityWatch was unable to reach a Baldwin Park Police supervisor for further details on the arrest.

Higuera’s normal ritual is to take the dog out and have a smoke around the time the vehicle crashed, but he overslept Thursday morning and likely avoiding being seriously injured or killed.

“For one reason or another I didn’t do that this time for some reason. I was having a good old dream,” Higuera said.

BALDWIN PARK - A semi hauling a 40,000-pound trailer overturned and possibly caused several vehicles to crash into it on the east I-10 freeway just east of the 605 freeway.

The California Highway Patrol is holding all lanes of the eastbound side while firefighters work to treat patients, two of which were pulled after being trapped in a vehicle. The northbound 605 transition to the east I-10 is also being held.

All eastbound traffic is being diverted to the south 605, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was first reported at 4:46 a.m.

BALDWIN PARK - A man in his 50s was hospitalized Saturday after he jumped from the Baldwin Park Boulevard overpass and onto the eastbound I-10 off ramp, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.

Dispatchers received a number of calls from drivers who saw the man standing on Baldwin Park Boulevard over the freeway just after 6 p.m. April 1. They were worried that he was going to jump. After a search, the man was found wounded on the eastbound offramp to Baldwin Park Boulevard, according to Sgt. Balzano of the Baldwin Park Police Department.

The man suffered significant injuries. Balzano did not know what specific injuries the man received, only saying there was visible trauma.

The man is reportedly in stable condition.
