Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Police are investigating a possible grand theft of fire equipment after it was reported missing from the scene of a riverbed fire Monday.
Police responded to the San Gabriel Riverbed south of the I-10 freeway and west of the 605 freeway around 7 p.m. While police took a grand theft report, they are still trying to determine if the equipment was either lost or burned in the brush fire, said. Lt. Mark Adams of the Baldwin Park Police Department. What specifically was stolen was not immediately known. The brush fire burned five acres of vegetation in the San Gabriel River. Initially dispatched to firefighters at 12:36 p.m., the fire grew rapidly, forcing firefighters to initiate a first-alarm brush fire response, complete with helicopters. The fire, which was dispatched at 12:36 p.m., was first reported at one-half acres in light grass, but the fire’s progression increased despite additional resources arriving at the initial firefight, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The fire is burning in the San Gabriel Riverbed and has been designated as a first-alarm brush fire. Three firefighting helicopters are en route to assist. |
