CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Things went back to normal Monday afternoon after a caller threatened two adjacent banks with explosive devices, police said. The unidentified caller phoned the corporate offices of Chase Bank, 14483 E. Ramona Blvd., and Bank of America, 14401 E. Ramona Blvd. The Baldwin Park Police Department was notified around 1:13 p.m. December 22. The banks’ corporate offices ordered employees to evacuate as a precaution. An El Pollo Loco, which sits between the banks, was evacuated by police, according to Lt. Evan Martin of the Baldwin Park Police Department. The West Covina Police Department assisted by providing a K9 unit to help with searches, while the Irwindale Police Department assisted with providing traffic control. Both banks were cleared around 3:45 p.m. Investigators continue to trace the source of the calls, Martin told SGV CityWatch. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A trash dumpster provided a paltry hiding spot for a man who fled officers after allegedly brandishing a weapon May 1. Multiple witnesses reported an armed man near the offramp to the I-10 freeway at Puente Avenue around 7:48 a.m. Thursday. The man fled from arriving California Highway Patrol officers and sought refuge inside of a dumpster, according to the CHP Baldwin Park office. Officers from the CHP, Baldwin Park and West Covina Police departments surrounded the dumpster at a nearby McDonalds, 14530 Baldwin Park Towne Center. After more than one hour, the suspect surrendered, according to the CHP. A replica handgun was recovered and the suspect was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The suspect was seen by the homeowner inside the residence in the area of Baldwin Park Boulevard and Sterling Way. The homeowner and his 3-year-old child are locked inside a bedroom, possibly unable to escape, according to Baldwin Park Police radio traffic. It is unclear how the incident began. Irwindale Police are assisting Baldwin Park officers and located a weapon nearby. West Covina Police have offered to use their armored vehicle for the barricade situation. |
