CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A known gang banger was jailed after leading Baldwin Park and El Monte Police officers on a pursuit into Montebello. The pursuit occurred January 24. The driver was allegedly driving recklessly through the streets of Baldwin Park and El Monte, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Officers pursued the driver on the ground and in the air into Montebello where the driver fled the vehicle near Montebello Towne Center. A brief foot pursuit ended with the arrest of Xavier Angel Mercado, 23. Mercado was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading police while on the wrong side of the median, evading with wanton disregard for public safety, possession of nitrous oxide and revocation of probation. Booking records appear to be incomplete for Mercado. Officers served a search warrant and uncovered the $1 million operation and several thousands plants in the warehouse in the 13100 block of Spring Street Sunday, February 26. “BPPD’s Gang Activity Prevention detectives identified three adult subjects from neighboring cities involved/associated with the warehouse in question. The Baldwin Park Police Department expressed thanks to the community for providing information leading to this operation and others like it in recent months. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK – A police officer returned to work one day after being hospitalized for exposure to Fentanyl during a medical call September 22, Baldwin Park Police said. Police responded to a call of a woman slumped over the wheel of a parked vehicle in a residential neighborhood. Officers were able to wake the woman who, during the investigation, said there were drugs inside a small container picked up by one of the officers. “When the container was opened by one of the officers, he immediately became light-headed and dizzy. The woman told officers the narcotics were methamphetamine, heroin, and Fentanyl,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department in a written statement.
Paramedics treated the officer on scene and took him to be hospitalized for narcotics exposure, Baldwin Park Police said. “Due to COVID-19, the woman was booked in the field on charges of possession of controlled substances. She was issued a citation and immediately released with a court date in the near future,” Baldwin Park Police said. |
